I have an old sony vpl-x600u witha burned out bulb.
Can i use the lens pulled from this unit for the diy projector (15.4" for 1080p)?
SupraGuy
No.

If you look at the LCD in the commercial projector, you'll see that it's very small. Assuming that the lens can cover the 15.4 at all (doubtful) the resulting projection would be as many times larger than the commercial projector's as the 15.4" LCD is larger than the LCD in your commercial projector.

Okay, that was awkward phrasing...

Say you get an 80" projection with a 3.5" LCD in your commercial projector. You would get a 352" projection with a 15.4" LCD. (Assuming that it's at all possible, which I think that it isn't.
