Lately there have been a number of posts talking about returning damaged merchandise, namely, LCD panels that had been stripped, and reassembled.

I will try to make this as easy to understand as possible:

LUMENLAB DOES NOT CONDONE PROMOTING THIS ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR

Keep in mind, even though nothing may have physically shorted out the board, or otherwise caused the buyer to decide to reassemble and return a stripped monitor, just by unscrewing the screws holding the case together voided the warrenty on the monitor. Therefore, anything wrong with it after that point is the fault of the buyer, not the manufacturer or reseller. Reassembling and returning a monitor after it has been disassembled is illegal, and a form of theft.

It is unfortunate that people have purchased monitors that either don't work for the project, or that they damaged somewhere along the disassembly path. However, it is even more unfortunate that society has come to a point where openly discussing dishonest, illegal behaviour is acceptable.

Obviously we are not there to physically help you strip your monitor, but there are plenty of people here on the forum, and on the irc server that are willing to help and offer tips/advice as needed. Please read through everything completely (twice) before diving into the project head first. Double and triple check everything before making cuts, purchases, etc. This is the only way to prevent these situations from arising.

I worry when I see some of the problems people are having with certain parts of this project. It makes me think that they are trying to hurry through it, and in their rush they are not being safe, or thorough. This goes back to what has been said time and time again regarding the mains voltage wiring. If you don't know absolutely what you are doing, STOP and SEEK HELP/ADVICE.

I hope the general message I am trying to convey here wasn't lost in the length of this post, but just to be sure, I will reiterate it one last time...

I will be a very happy forum moderator when I don't have to delete any posts due to their content, especially when that content has to do with promoting the idea of returning merchandise that you have damaged. This is illegal, dishonest, and will not be tolerated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
