My screen has 5 coats of Flat UPW and it looks great. cool.gif

I wouldn't recommend using any "off-the-shelf" type of paint, especially not plain white. When you use a flat plain white paint it KILLS all black levels. I personally would recommend using the black flame paint or the MaxxMudd paint. Linky

Plain flat white paint.

I am using an ECO1.1 with a 100" maxmudd painted wall and it is fantastic. much better than the white base wall that I overpainted. The maxmudd recipe was easy to follow and easy to apply (foam roller) the outcome was great. As the paint dries if you project an image on it you can see all the metal flake in the paint . As it dries the metal flake blends in and is not noticeable. The color hues especially skin tones are great. The recipe is free why not use it!!!

Thanks for the link Greeneyed. Do you (or anybody else reading this) have experience with either of these mixtures? I haven't read the whole AVS forum about it yet, but am wondering how much better the results are over Silverscreen or UPW.

Edit: After reading (most of) the 20 page AVS post, this mixture seems like the way to go if you really want "the best" DIY screen. It kind of seems like a pain because of all the parts/mixture and thus costs, as well as the fact they recommend you spray it on, but I will most likely go ahead and make this mix in a month or so (after I finish my box rebuild.) If anybody has any thoughts on this mix (the controlled light, low lumen mix) I'd love to hear them.

What are your theater conditions?

Do you have total light control, including dark walls, ceiling, and furnishings?

Do you plan to only watch in total darkness or will there be some ambient light present?

What condition is the wall in and how much work are you willing to do to make it smooth?

Thanks for the welcome! smile.gif

I thought Topher had posted some screen shots of his poly top coated screen on poly-wall here. I think he has one of these projectors but I can't find it. Anyone lead me to it?

I guess that will depend on whether L-S-D still wants some help or not.

If anyone else wants to talk DIY Painted Screen Solutions, I'm all ears. There have been on going experiments and trials that have led to a variety of solutions depending on the situation and desires of the implementors.

I have been exploring the different finishes that Behr offers in the Behr Facts About Sheen thread. This has resulted in several products being identified as best suited to certain conditions. I am just now getting started on some Pearl Clear Coat trials as well. As always I just find this stuff intriguing and I am eager to share what I have learned with anyone that can make use of it.
