Hi

Can anyone help

I have a Panasonic TH42PW5 - this is a few years old but does not have HD input - It is however a great screen

Not sure what you mean. According the the manual ( http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/TH42PW5UZ.PDF ) it supports both 720p and 1080i on the component or PC inputs. (different model from this one ?)

From the advertising for this HD fury product it appears that this product is the perfect solution to connect HD devices such as a Sky HD satellite box we have in the UK, a PS3 etc to a screen like mine

The manual for the screen seems to state I can view a 1080/60i signal

Is this HD fury the real deal? Will it deliver the same quality as a new HD ready plasma or am I in dreamland thinking that this will give me full 1080 HD

As stated, the HDFury does not scale the incoming signal, it only converts an HD digital signal with HDCP protection to an analog signal without HDCP protection. What you send in, is what you get out, only in an analog form instead of encrypted digital.

Will your panasonic look as good as a new 1080p TV. Probably not as the resolution on newer TV's are much better now-a-days. You can maximize how good of a signal is sent to your TV by utilizing the HDFury and sending 1080i or 720p from your Sat Box or PS3. I'm not sure about your Sat box and whether it's got HDCP or not. The PS3 definitely has HDCP when playing Blu-Ray movies through the HDMI port.

Thanks for all your responses - As one individual stated I know the resolution is 852 x 480 but as you mention the manual does state 1080 on the component inputs so should I buy the HD fury or give it a miss

Thanks to all

I take it your Sat Box has HDMI (or DVI) output, but no component output ?

so, yea, the HD Fury is just the thing you need to convert the sat box and PS3 from HDMI (with HDCP) to VGA (no HDCP). HDCP on the PS3 is only in effect when playing Blu-Ray movies. I don't know about your Sat Box. Of course the highest signal you can send your TV is 720p or 1080i as that is all it is capable of handling. You'll need a display capable of handling 1080p to use that resolution.

Do you think the HDfury can be used to convert to component to use on Johnzo 1080p controller instead of VGA?
n1co35
i don't know if this was asked already, if it was sorry for repeating.
has anyone use hd fury on an evo before? if so how was it?
TheWrathOfBambi
I dont think its possible to use with the evo, correct me if im wrong though..

Well it should be as simple as, does the evo have vga input? Is the evo at least 720p capable? if the answer is yes then it should work. If it doesn't have both of these then whats the sense in getting one for the evo. So you can run 480p?
RedHerringHack
I have to say that this hdfury device works fantastically. Just avoid using the "extension" cable for VGA that they send you. It introduces a fair amount of noise. Direct connect straight to your controller if you can.

The evo takes 720p or any HD content and scales it down to its native resolution, may not be as good as a real hd tv but you still get a really good picture

ok thanks. you'll be using it on an evo right??
i want to see. because i wasn't impressed when i hooked up my ps3 via component.
i was able to get it up to 1080p but it didn't look too good.
720p was better but there was times that lines looked like it was zoomed in to.
as in lines were pixelated. wasn't too bad though.
But maybe its the cables i bought.
i got the one made by sony.
not sure if its the best one to be using.

when i watch HD content on VGA the picture was better.
since HDfury hooks up to VGA im hoping it will as good, if not better than
it was on the VGA.

im not getting HD fury, i was just responding too another post saying that it dosent seem like it would work.... but i am ordering an evo tomarrow smile.gif

I finally got my blueray player last weekend. Everything worked great with the hdfury. I am using a Sharp wuxga panel with a g220 controller.

I got my G2A130 controller in and I'm having trouble getting it to recognize the signal. I says "invalid input" when I change the PS3 to 1080p.
It does 720p just fine through the HDFury but everytime I change it to 1080p automatically or manually it says "invalid input on the screen of the Sharp panel.
The blue light on the HDFury is on but the signal seems to not be correct. Any suggestions??

The G2A does not accept a 1080p hd video signal through the VGA properly.
RedHerringHack
Maybe it's just the g2a130 that doesn't because I can verify that the g2a220 that I have, does. I have hdfury and ps3 and have watched bluray movies in 1080p. hdfury ROCKS to the EXTREME!! (Johnny Extreme, X-Play, G4).
Cold Steel
sad.gif Dobie (G2A supplier) told me that the 220 wasn't compatable with the 17 inch panels. He said the 130 was my only choice. Now what's a body to do. sad.gif

you are using a 17" wuxga panel with a G2A130 controller ? (neat smile.gif)

I've got the G2A130 and 1080p will work with my xbox360 VGA cable, but will not work with the component cable. (strangely 1080i on component looks better than 1080p on VGA ??) Are you using VGA or component HDFury ?

edit: nevermind, I thought there was a component HDFury, but I was thinking of the 5 BNC version, which is for supporting RGBHV input devices.

What setting do you have the PS3 at? 1080p/60 or 1080p/24 ?

I'm using the DVI to VGA HDFury. I hooked it to my computer without the HDFury and it went all the way to 1920x1200 through VGA . My video card supports this resolution in VGA and DVI. I tried using the HDFury hookup to the computer and it changed everything . Completely different results. I'll post more later , work time. sad.gif
Cold Steel
I hooked the controller to my pc and it displayed 1080p through dvi but not through the hdfury and the vga.

Cold Steel
I reset my controller to the factory settings and my PS3 1080p signal came through the vga "Or did it".

It shows the PS3 producing a 1080p signal through the vga port on the controller. Now look at this:

The vga on the controller says it's not. I have it set to fill . It has a 1:1 ratio setting and that makes it small and in the middle of the screen. I believe the 1280X1024 is actually the true output that is scaled down by the G2A130.
The PS3 is actually feeding a 1080p picture but the G2A is scaling it back.

RedHerring what does your vga say on your OSD (on screen display)?????

In that pic is the display set to 1920x1200 ?

If so like I was saying that is NOT 1080p. 1080p is a HP video signal that is technically 1920x1080/60.

And the G2A 130 will not accept a 1920x1080/60 signal through Vga
Cold Steel
Yes the pic display is set to 1920X1200 and it shows the refresh rate at 60. Also I played a downloaded movie trailer from Quicktime in 1080p called Halloween2.
I agree with you on the G2A130 not being compatable through the vga input using the HDFury.

It said in the G2A manual to hook it to your pc and see if it displays the desired picture you were looking for. I did hook the HDFury to my dvi and it was offset to the right so far the horizontal reset was around 2300+ yes 2300+. I held the adjustment button down and it reset the screen to a vga mode around 455 so I just gave up and quit.

When I used the vga out on my computer and hooked it to the G2A it displayed correctly at 1920X1200. Go figure. I'm getting a headache with this mess.

BTW my 17 inch widescreen is the perfect projected image size to match my wall screen size.
Cold Steel
jonjandran do you think a vga to dvi adapter would help with the scaling issue. It would run through the dvi input instead of the vga.

A dvi-to-vga adapter won't work for the G2A controller. The G2A needs DVI-D and the Dvi-to-vga adapters are Dvi-I.

Does anyone know where to buy this adapter? Or is it still in the development stage?

is there a hdfury thats vga to hdmi??
or its only vga to dvi?? and that i have to get dvi to hdmi.
to make that possible.

I have a cable that is HDMI on one end, DVI on the other which is plugged into the HDFury and then the HDFury is plugged into the VGA port on my controller.

I have yet to see any HDMI+HDCP signal that didn't work all the way through to VGA. Xbox, PS3, Upconverting DVD, DVR.

ah i see. so ur cable is hdmi and dvi from one end to another.
and the dvi end connects to hdfury. which is dvi to hdmi.
is that correct?

As far as I am aware there are no HD Fury models that have a DVI or HDMI output, so when connected all together it will be HDMI on the input end and VGA on the output end.
