Here is the teardown of a Samsung 712N. It is a 17 inch flat panel rated at 600 to 1 contrast, 12 ms response, and can be found at best buy.

This is the monitor.

This is the back of the monitor.

By removing the 4 screws that hold the mounting plate in and 2 screws on the bottom corners you will be able to separate the back of the casing from the front.

GENTLY unsnap the back casing from the front. Note: Do not try to pry the front off, there is one screw at the bottom in the middle that holds it onto the panel. Work your way around all of the edges and leave the bottom part of the middle connected.

Continued Post for Foamcows:

Right underneath where it says samsung is where the screw is that holds the front part of the casing to the panel. Carefully remove the back casing while leaving the front on the panel.

This is how the back should look.

Remove the 2 screws. One is what holds the casing to the panel, and the second one is in the center of the panel. Also unplug the cable at the bottom that connects the electronics to the buttons on the front casing.

Remove the front casing and take out the screws on the left edges of the panel.

Remove the screws on the right edges of the panel.

More for Foamcows:

Remove the metal shield, be carefull not to pull the cable that went to the buttons. Slide the cable thru the hole as you are removing the metal shield. This is how the panel should look now.

Gently unplug all of the wires that connect the panel to the electronics. Remove the electronics.

This is the electronics of the panel.

This is the panel with the electronics off. Remove the 3 screws at the top, make sure you have a screwdriver that fits these screws for they are very tight and strip easily, do not put a bunch of force of the back of the panel when unscrewing these.

More:

This is the connector that connects the ffc's to the electronics, to remove it squeeze the metal on the clip inwards and pull the connector out. It should slide very easily, do not pull on it.

This is the panel with everything but the backlighting off. Simply remove the backlighting, being carefull not to damage and to support to the ffc's on the top of the LCD.

This is the final dimensions of the LCD inside of the frame so that you can make the box before you strip the monitor.

thanks for the detailed pics of the monitor, it's reassuring to look at some steps before digging into mine soon.

quick question, do you remember how much room there was along the edge of the lcd for mounting without obstructing the part of the lcd that was being projected?

i.e. from the 14.125" how much on each side is useable for the brackets.

thanks.

by looking at your pics, the 712N looks almost exactly like the 512N. the power supply looked larger to accomidate a larger backlight and the front control panel wire looked slightly different. other than that it almost the same.
