sigh... you know I am just bout ready to give up for good, seriously....while screwing around int my dangerously overstocked workshop, I had your two circuit boards and the controller for the 10.6 on the bench ...... I went to put the 400/150 ballast combo on a shelf above the bench.... yes, thats exactly right, I am possibly the clumsiest human alive, wasn't paying attention , put them on the shelf and moments later they landed right on the LPS board from the barco and the controller for the 10.6... busted a big brown resistor looking thing on the lps board and a small black capacitor(I think) and a tiny little brown thing on the mst controller.... after I move I may just end up selling everything I have left on ebay, I think this kind of hobby may just not be for me, maybe I should take up knitting, but then I'd probably poke myself in the eye, so no LPS board, the other one looked ok, googd thing you have the buhl ocming..is that 575 from venture a 95volt ballast output? sorry for busting mine.....

thanks, I felt bad and stupid at the same time smile.gif do they specifically say that that ballast will light that bulb? I'd double check and get a guarantee..if thats true thats an incredible price for a ballast to run the 575w hmi, true hmi ballasts are generally electronic and very expensive....
and no, I'm noit getting any ideas..no..noo.. although the 2 ballasts I dropped were fine..... even I have a ahrd time breaking those, now to figure out if I can fix the mst controller
verboten1
I'll ask, just to make sure.

GL with the controller

the ballast from venture will NOT work.

ELMO SAVES THE DAY....

I bought this Elmo OHP because it uses the same lamp as my projector.
therefore i now have 3 new lamps and 2 used.
and i need the ballast

at the 750 hour lamp life limit X 3 and say 350 for the other 2 I have around 2700 hours of projected enjoyment for a total investment of
~$500 as long as everything works for the whole time....I'd say not too bad for a projector capable of 720P
verboten1
finally got my hands on a proxima 9100!!!
another ballast to save the day if i need it

Good thing I didn't bid against you then. I was tempted. smile.gif
verboten1
yeah...i had my heart set on this one...i forgot to bid on the last one that was up
scoodidabop
I think I was bidding against you on that. You beat me by a dollar!
verboten1
after i rebid, i noticed who was bidding against me...

if i had realize di would have let you win it..
verboten1
well, after ripping apart the OHP...my gf lost my paper that told me where wires go!!!...grrrr
verboten1
finally got the proxima 9100....
lots of nice parts in it...some cool angled mirrors...a nice triplet, an awesome light housing, some usable power supplies, and last but not least AN E-Ballast!!!.

took me a good 2 hours to get to, but it's out and ready to be fit into the barco.

this one my gf can;t mess up wink.gif lol
simp1yamazn
don't suppose you have any pics of the 9100 disassembly? i also have a proxima 9100 that i'm going to be taking apart for the ballast. is it hard to take out or is it just a long process? also, how are you going to be wiring it since it uses a separate button to turn on and off the lamp?

no pictures.

everything is in there pretty good.

all you REALLY need to do is get to the back and the ballast should come out pretty easy.

take off teh bottom, you will see the heat sink for the ballast, and the igniter.

remove the lamp housing top, to remove the lamp wires.
the igniter then will have 2 wires going to teh ballast.

the ballast will come out from the back, by getting all of those power supplies out of the way, you should see teh screws
verboten1
as for wiring, i will have a switch for my fans/LCD , and a switch for the lamp.

I want to use the temp sensor for a lamp fan and the LCD fan, so it will turn on and stay on with the lamp on, but all other fans will shut off with the LCD switch.

we'll see....i need to get some wiring supplies gathered up so i can finish this badboy!!
simp1yamazn
one last question (sorry if this is basic but my wiring skills and electrical knowlege are... lacking). Do you know how much power the ballast requires? I'm assuming that I can't use the LL wiring kit seeing as the ballast in the 9100 shares it's power supply with the LCD and fans.
verboten1
well, I will have the Ballast and fan power supply on one plug, and the LCD and LCD fan and lamp fan on another. Since i am not using any of the barco guts (except the light engine) this is all me.

running 2 wall switches to my media closet, so when i turn one on i get lamp and LCD fans and LCD, turn the other one on i get Lamp, Ballast fans, and probably 1 other fan to exhaust all kinds of heat.

that way when i turn on the LCD, my fans will not come on until there is heat from the lamp. Turn on teh lamp, and all fans and the lamp come on. turn off the lamp, LCD and fans stay on the fans will shut off when the heat from the lamp goes down
verboten1
woohoo!!! i won an auction for a new lamp.
barco OEM lamp, typically going for >$300

i def did not pay that much lol

Picking up two barco 2100's today.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...021312&rd=1

Total $200.00 (local pickup - no shipping)
One has brand new bulb, the other has around 500 hours (First time build, so its nice to have a backup)

I've decided to use this as a frame for my 10.6 mst kit. I will be using the bulbs that come with it until johnzo finishes the new 10mm lcd boards for the 10.6 (should be a month or two)

From what i have read, the lamps on these are plenty powerful, I'm just worried about the heat, and this is a first time build for me)

Are you using the oringinal lens in the barco or are you replacing it?
Can you possibly put down a parts list of what I would need if i have the Barco, the 10.6mst kit, and 220 and 330mm fresnal?

Thanks for all your hard work, I've been looking for a few days for a good base projector to start with, saw this one, and there just happend to be two availabe right down the street. How sweet is that?
B0SC0
Not sure you can use the 2100 lc.

2100 lc does not use a 10.4" lcd. It uses PolySi 3LCD.

The 2100 does use the10.4" lcd.

If I am correct, someone should note this in the list.

I think the 2100 still uses a 10.4" LCD...just a different kind..

if you look at the proxima 9100, it says polysi 3LCD but it was a 10" LCD.

I stripped everything out of my barco, originally i was using everything, but the ballast died, so i decided to use a different e-ballast from the proxima 9100.

it also has a couple of nice power supplies that i will be using in my build.

I hope to finish this badboy some time this week so i can watch a movie!!

any final word on whether this is 10" lcd or not?
verboten1
all i know is what projector central tells me.

the 2100 is listed as a 10.4"

the 2100 LC is listed as a PolySi 3LCD

the proxima 9100 is listed as a PolySi 3LCD (1)

the proxima has 1 ~10" LCD in it

yeah, i have seen polysi3lcd's anywhere from .6" - 10", i still cant find any specifics on whats in the 2100lc

well i wouldnt; think they would have released something with small LCDs in it using that huge enclosure...

but until i see one...i couldnt; tell you

sorry
verboten1
just watched my first full movie on my $20 4'x4' matte white screen, other than some color issues which i can change on my HTPC (watched it from this comp, since it was closer to the PJ) i am happy

i need to flip the LCD. set up some inputs on the back or side, and then hang it...I'll be done
sdubb
way to go verboten1 now do the finishing touches on it and get cracking on the litepro so I know what to look forward to I def. dont want to be the guinea pig smile.gif

blacks and colors are pretty decent. my issue is that i think it's TOO bright sometimes. maybe the bigger screen (8' wide vs 4' right now) will help

jumping!
verboten1
so, if i think the whites may be washing out at this point, I assume anything more than a matte white 1:1 screen would make the image worse?
victor-eyd
The aspect ratio seems off. Is the dvd player set to 16:9? Otherwise, very nice.

Actually, too bright is a good thing.

I'd consider a grey screen since lcd displays are notorious for low contrast. Also, you've got brightness to spare to offset the grey.

For my ht projector, a 450:1 commercial, I used lowes valspar plank grey interior flat which I simply rolled on the wall. Works great!

Victor
verboten1
forgot to switch the comp to 1280X768.

its at 1280X1024 like i use for the internet.

i will have to find some grey material i can use for my home made electric screen.
Litherish
Those pictures look really good. Looks like everyone is jumping on the BarcoData 2100 retrofit projector.

I probably would be too, but have other things going on that restrict my time.

Good luck, and keep the screenshots coming. smile.gif
verboten1
after seeing jonjandrans ask impression, I wanted to do a commercial retrofit.

the barco came up on ebay, it used the right size LCD and had a 575W light engine. plus it came free with the purchase of a new lamp. how could i pass it up!!

the commercial retrofit has been more hassle that it should have been due to dying ballasts, but that is ok, because i think it saved me alot of tweaking time too...
x_25
Verboten1, i resized the diypro.net test image to be a native 1280x768 without stretching, could you throw it up on your projector and take a picture to see if i got it right?

Now we wont have to live with ovals on our test projections. happy.gif

verboten1
I'll test later, i JUST shut it down.....yes i am watching movies in full daylight, with windows on 3 walls...crazy huh?
x_25
Its not that important, just whenever you get around to it. I hope i can watch mine during the day once i build it. Right now i have thick blankets taped over the windows in my room so i can see my projector.

Wow watching TV during the day it can't be! Could you please post a daylight pic tomorrow! Oh yeah and I don't think it looks washed out at all, and can projector be TOO bright haha.
verboten1
I'll do what i can for daylight..the camera took crappy pics, but maybe it has a couple of adjustments i can make.

it is obviously not nearly as nice as what you see here already, but it was watchable .

When i get my curtains made, it will be bearable during the day i think
simp1yamazn
do you happen to have any lux measurements?
eliwankenobi
Congratulations on your projector verboten!!!

I bought this same pj last May, but shipping costs to PR made it prohibitive for me. $200 for shipping plus the pj itself was too much. sad.gif

Now I bought a LED blade from johnzo and have a Sylvania MH400/BT28.

I want to find a pre-condenser for the MH-400 and then decide which will give me a better picture.
verboten1
that sucks man, the lighting in this thing is so even, its great!

I'm so jealous you right now. Your PJ better watch its back I think mines pissed I'm looking at yours so much biggrin.gif
victor-eyd
The most appealing things to me about retrofitting a commercial as opposed to building one from scratch (tescorp and others exempted) are aesthetics (it is a commercial design so it doesn't look like a coffin) and optics design (everything such as freshnels and triple distance has been spaced out as best as possible) so if you just drop in a new lcd and/or replace the light engine with another of similar configuration, you're good to go.

would you say that $400, local pickup, for two 2100's, one with a new bulb, the other with 400 hours would be a good deal?
