Hey Joe or Brain, any estimates on the cost so far for the rptv? I think a ballpark estimate might help some of the noobs who are deciding which to make.

well the lcd i have is 15" 1024x768, so the commercial ones have a smaller lcd at that resolution but by the time you enlarge it to the same size you loose more resolution than the 15" lcd just like our projectors are, place one of our projectors 60" from screen and look at the quality thats what you get here.

I haven't seen how our projectors look in person, but my RPTV now does 1080i, 720p, etc so how can the resolution be higher than them? Maybe just sharper?

Depends on RP. Some of the cheaper $1000 units are still using 640x480. Many of the higher end RPs offer HD but it is often interpolated.

Have you found a good screen yet for the rptv? Any test screen shots?

We're trying to source a lenticular array because it will work better than screen material. We've had some good shots with RP screen but we want better.

Sounds very expensive.

So does "Gourmet Processed Cheese Food Product".
I'm sure Brain will "keep it real" in the design, or offer a cheaper -- yet maybe lesser picture quality (but still acceptable) alternative...
The screens we have seen already are impressive for an incomplete prototype.

I can't wait to see more progress on the RPTV. I think I'll build one for my dad after I build my pj!

One of the things that got me started with building the front projector is that RP Monitors weren't very good quality. This should be much better in that respect because of the large LCD. The other is the viewing angle. When viewed from an angle the screen is very dim. Do you think the viewing angle quality will be improved over the RP monitors that are out there?
The quality of the FP is awesome. My brother has finished his and I am still working.

Well hey since no one hangs out here anymore I will put my 2 cents in and I dont know if this would work for a screen but saw it on ebay

WHen i was at my local movie theatre they had a small 4'x4' screen hanging from the ceiling with some promos playing on it...I couldnt figure out where the damn projector was, then I looked behind it about 10' and there was a PJ. I would imagine this material they used would be ideal, but expensive.

I'm looking at adapting an RPTV design for my next project.
