Full Version: Has Anybody Purchased The 108" Motorized Screen From Ll?

My brother is looking to buy a screen and I mentioned Lumenlab's electric.

Anybody got one? I'd love to see some pics, as I have a few questions, such as:

1. What is the wiring like? Is there a plug, and how long is the cable?
2. How smooth/quiet is the mechanism?
3. Can they be screwed right into ceiling or wall joists?
4. Can the IR codes be programmed into a universal remote?

Well, I guess I can comment as my brother ended up buying one, but I only had a short time to check it out. Verdict? Definitely a good deal. Unfortunately, its the only commercial screen I've ever seen, and he was using it with a Panasonic AX-100U, which kicks major ass, so I have no way to measure its relative performance. The image looked awesome, for what that's worth. That being said, the voltage conversion thing is a bit of a hassle, and I really wish the remote was IR instead of RF, so I could have added its codes to his universal remote. Lord knows what happens if you lose the remote. Otherwise, thumbs up!

Sorry this is a bit off topic but, if you are looking for good cheap screens i would check out the eshop directpower on ebay.
i have just bought a high gain 150" motorized screen with IR remote for £56...a steal i think. will let you know what the quality is like when it arrives...am so excited! biggrin.gif

Hello Sensibull,
As a lumen-intern/quasi-employee I'll take it on myself to try and answer your questions (if you still want to know; didn't notice your post before.) Currently, I'm out of town, or rather, I'm in my home-town- so I don't have one in front of me- but I have a good memory, and have tinkered around with this unit before.

1. What is the wiring like? Is there a plug, and how long is the cable?
a: The wiring to the actual screen/motor uses a standard IEC power cord (the same type that supplies power to your desktop computer). The remote unit has a cord for 220v AC. The remote is un-needed with a simple re-wiring. I suspect (but haven't tried) that you could power the whole thing by soldering in a standard power-cord to the remote receiver. (http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21049)

2. How smooth/quiet is the mechanism?
a:There is noise, but it isn't obnoxious. This is typical of AC motors of its size. The smoothness of the rolling/unrolling of the screen is very good. Simply up and down.

3. Can they be screwed right into ceiling or wall joists?
a:As I remember, it's intended for wall-mounting. I can't remember if it can be ceiling mounted or not.

4. Can the IR codes be programmed into a universal remote?
a:the remote uses radio. So, short answer: no. If you are industrious enough, there are a number of kits meant to add remote control to home-brew hi-fi gear available. It would definitely be a little bit involved to do that though.

Anyways, hope that helps a little. It's late, and I need to drink some more beer before I go to bed.
If you, or anyone else has questions regarding this, feel free to email me, since I check my email a lot more frequently than the forums...
