Can I hook this right up to a DVD player? ie. Can I do this without using my PC?
What do I need to connect this thing to a DVD. I would prefer to be able to use this as part of a HT system that doesn't need a PC, so it would include TV and DVD playback. Can I hook it up to DVD to play DVDs and a video player for TV? Or is there something more I need to add?
regards,
Paul

Look in the 'product reviews' forum and you will see a couple 'signal converter' things that eliminate the need to have a computer.
I have hunted for the answer of all answers for this question, and finally my light came on.
What you need will depend on the monitor you get [in other words, ask the seller before you buy whatever you are looking at]. If you get a 'computer monitor' then you should need a computer monitor cable feed. If you get a 'tv monitor' then you likely will need nothing to plug it into an RCA or S-Video wire. If you get a 12 volt 7 inch automobile television. . . well, ummm. . . you might need a couple of plugs and stuff to hook that up as far as I can figure. You might need a video converter, depending on the input built in, plus a voltage converter. It all depends on what you bought.
The converter things in the hardware review forum can take DVD/VCR wires and convert the signal into 'computer monitor' signal that a computer monitor plug goes into, and depending on which one you get, it could potentially change it into other types.
My biggest concern will be that I get one that only has a USB input. The IBM netvista things are riddled all over with USB ports only [except the modem and LAN plug]. Those might be like a laptop though, since they seem to be fully integrated instead of a stand-alone monitor.
