Hi, all, I've finally got a small panel (provided it works) off eBay to FINALLY start my first projector. I'm using an AudioVox D1500A portable DVD player I got cheap off eBay that had a bad DVD Drive. (crap resolution, I know, but I wanna start simplel. I'll build some insane Quadruple HD-Virtual Reality Super projector the size of a cell phone with built in Soda Fridge and popcorn popper next week)

Any ways, it's a 5 inch screen.... heck, I'm lazy, here's the auction link

My Panel

Anyways, has anybody else ever worked with this model?

Also....

-I plan on using a PSU to drive it and some fans, how hard is it to step the PSU's outputs from 12v to the 9v this thing requires?

-I'm planning on building the thing into a PC case. How hard are they to keep cool?
-Will the outside of the case BURN you if you touch it while it's running?
(btw, planning on using either a 150W or 250W MH Ballast. Probably Core and coil)

-This thing has those annoying .125 jacks which require another jack that converts to RCA size jacks for A/V in. (why can't they just use a normal RCA jack?) How hard is it to just soder a proper RCA style jack to the board? (keep in mind that one jack is again for both Audio and video)

-Is there anything I should know that I didn't think to ask?

All help is appreciated

Not hard in the slightest. Go to your nearest Radioshack, Fry's, or similar electronics store and look for a 9 volt regulator. They're pretty common.

Well, I was using a halogen OHP/slide projector bulb, and it got fairly hot inside (with a 120mm fan and a PCI slot fan shorted to max CFM). I don't know if a 150w/250w MH bulb are hotter or cooler than the OHP/slidePJ bulb, but mine wasn't easy to keep cool. However, you would probably be fine if you thought out your cooling system more than I did.

Well, I wouldn't recommend soldering jacks directly on the board, but if you take some short wires, solder one end to the PCB, and the other end to jacks, it will work. I did this on my PSOne screen's board and it wasn't difficult at all.

Happy DIYPJing!
