Full Version: 10.6" Mst Kit Tests

Well I received my 10.6" Kit with Mst controller and I'll begin major testing tonight.

But first the Incredible Good News is that Hdcp IS enabled through HDMI/DVI inputs.
Yes you heard me correctly. HDCP IS ENABLED. I tested it with 2 different upconverting DVD players and a laptop with HD-Dvd and Hdmi outputs, and it works fine. 480p, 720p and 1080i all upconverted fine with copywrited Dvds. And the HD-Dvd's played perfectly from the laptop at 1920x1080.

More to come.

Here's what I've tested so far.

HDMI.....HDCP Enabled with 2 Upconverting Dvd players
480p---Works
576p---Works
720p---Works
1080i--Works
1080p--Works

Component with Upconverting Dvd player and Xbox 360
480p---Works
576p---Works
720p---Works
1080i--Works
1080p--Works

VGA through upconverting Dvd player
640x480---Doesn't Work right, shifts upward
800x600---Doesn't Work right, shifts upward
1024x768---Works

VGA from laptop
Displays perfectly anything I throw at it up to 1920x1200

HDMI/DVI from laptop
Everything works but it doesn't scale to fit so there is some overlap of icons. In other words some icons will hang over the sides of the screen a little.

Nice work JonJ. Looks like im in the market for controller #3

anybody wanna buy a 5221? laugh.gif

I just got a Motorola HDDVR from COX. Looks like it will pair nicely with the MST
johnzo1995
EXCELLENT WORK!!! Im glad HDCP is enabled. So this controller is better than the genesis.

I'm going to be testing Xbox 360 Vga and PS3 Hdmi tomorrow. But I think they'll work fine. This is one awesome controller smile.gif

I'm dying to get a 10.6 panel.......need...to...wait...till...summer

I will be getting one though, it seems like every input I would ever need works on them now!
ricoks
is there any 'better' news for this panel??? I mean, this thing seems to have everything. The only thing it doesn't would be full 1080P, but since really, only HD-DVDs and BluRay is about that only thing that outputs 1080P - This thing is pretty good for a while until more come out that do. WOOHOO!! biggrin.gif

Will we be able to just buy the controller if we already have the LCD? I would LOVE to have one that does HDCP.

Well it will display 1080p but it downconverts it to 720p. But it still looks terrific at 1080p smile.gif

Awesome news. Thank you so much for your efforts.

How much is this controller?

johnzo1995
Yes, I will offer the controller by itself. Price is ~110 not set in stone yet.

Do I have to worry about HDCP, if I only plan to feed this panel via an HTPC (no HD player or cable box)?
geckostudios
You can count me in for one of those MST boards when you get it. That's the only thing that had me worried, and it fixes the component problems as well. Perfect! Love this thing!

I received my 10.6" w/ MST today. One thing to note is that nothing uses 1:1 pixel mapping, everything is scaled to the native 1280x768 of the panel, so there will be some distortion of HD signals... 48 pixels worth, not much, but still there. This is about the only achilles heal of this controller.

1080p looks to be the best input on this controller/panel combo, but I have yet to hook it to a computer to see what it can do at it's native resolution.

1280x768 native means that if I output that from my comp the image should fill the screen yes? I'm getting black bars top bottom right now...

What controller do you have and now is it connected ? You're getting black bars top and bottom when attached to the computer running a 1280x768 res ?
Drizzittt
MST controller through SVGA... I'll try another computer tonight.

And yeah, black bars top/bottom. If I go a few resolutions higher it fills the screen though...

I'd like to get one of these combo's as well. I looked around but I didn't see the price. PM me if you don't want it listed on the thread. I'm starting my first build, and this seems to be the best of all worlds!

Thanks,
Steve

I think it's about $280 shipped but don't quote me on that. smile.gif

im curious about these different controllers, will they only work with the 10.6" panels or can you hook up any tft monitor to it? for instance my samsung 740bf? 17"

A controller will only work with the Lcd that it has been programmed for. These controllers that Johnzo gets are programmed for the 10.6" Samsung Lcd's. So that is what they work with. Also a special Lvds cable has to be made with the appropriate pin arrangement and wiring. Every lcd has a different Lvds wiring arrangement.

You might could get these controllers programed for your Lcd and an Lvds cable made but the controller manufacturer would probably charge a couple thousand dollars to do it.

I'm confused, does this controller keep stuff at the right aspect ratio or not? Every other thing I've read about it says that it scales everything to the native resolution, including 4:3 sources.

Hello,
could somebody sends(swommer@gmail.com) me photo(screen with icons of your 10,6" panel)?
What do you mean about the response time(=35ms)?->Is it good for films?
Thanks for your answers...

Jonjandran, this may sound like a stupid question, but if this panel/controller combo accepts 1080p but down converts it to 720p, what is the point of sending it the 1080p?

Is there somehow a visible difference in quality when you pass it a 1080p signal as opposed to a 720p?

I've yet to buy any HD equipment, so if I'm showing a basic misunderstanding of HD technology, please excuse me.

Ok - you can ignore this message. Sorry - you're dealing with a major noob here. After re-reading I gather that you were just saying that the down-converted 1080p still looks great, not that it looks better than 720p.
