Well, I don't have any money right now, I'm trying to get by with just building a good projector. I wish I could help develop things; but over the summer, if this project is still alive, I will see if I can buy one to test.

Any news on these panels or is this dead. Would like to go with as small an LCD as possible on my next build, but would also like to be able to use a controller like the MST9E19A used on the 10.6".

If you have an actual quote from them that says $11 for the LCD, you can try to hold them to that... It's their mistake, not yours... But then again, this new price sounds much more realistic. I may still be game if we find the right controller that will run this.

Ok heres the greatest from our friends at sharp! When they make LCD panels used in laptops and such they ship the panel and all of the information that goes with the panel to those companys such as dell, or hp, or who ever, soooo i need to find out which laptop uses this panel. DANG!!

If you have reached a company that doesn't keep track of products that they manufacture I would be concerned in how well they are made. Someone is giving you the run around because they are not sure why you want this data.

Well now I found out that this is the replacement panel for the Toshiba U100 and i called every Toshiba they gave me but they only have the basic specs on like brightness and resoltion, not the things we need like LVDS cable type. Sooo I dont know where to go from here...

Hi,
Ive got two people at sharp working on this.
The reason you have been having trouble is because this LCD is a custom piece done for a larger company. There is still stock of it, and it can be manufactured on demand, but it was not manufactured for sale to the general public. Lets keep looking, Im sure we'll find it.

I made some contacts with suppliers for the panel. I still havent received any data sheets, but I wil work on that. I received 3 prices last night and expect to get a few more. I am working on getting a single sample, and pricing for a group buy. If we can get a controller like the MST that would be great.

Hey I have a supplier all lined up for these panels right now and he is ligament the prices for the LCD's are on the first page, if you find them cheaper let me know. By the way just so you know if you if it says 12.8 per peice that would be a typo, I was about to buy 10 when he sent me the final quote it says $1,280. The supplier im going to use now is 120 for anything under ten and 110 for 10-20 LCD's (he will lower the price if I oder them befor July which shouldnt be a problem!!). Also through the service i would be using I send my money to the trading HQ in the US and they dont send my money to supplier until they get my panels in soo theres no way to ripped off (unlike ebay)!!!!

I think when you reply to a post, you select File Attachement "Choose File", then locate the file on your computer.
After you locate the file you Click on "Add This Attachment"
Then Click on "Add into Post"
Then Click on "Add Reply"
I'm attaching a test pdf. If you can get the attached test pdf, then the above steps work.
Later,

Almost any Lcd will work with any controller if the controller is programed for it and you have the datasheet so you can make an appropriate Lvds cable with the correct pin-out.

Don’t get your hopes up on using this LCD with the 10.6” LCD controllers. The 10.6” LCD uses a 2 channel LVDS interface. The 7.2” LCD only uses single channel LVDS, at least that is what I could tell from the PDF.
Some controllers can be set to single channel LVDS but I think it requires a flash.

I'm going to get this LCD Panel (out of a libretto u100/u105 or the Sharp Mebius CV50)
What do I need to test it with the MST controller? Do I use the LVDS cable that comes with it?
and if the MST doesn't support single channel LVDS, are there any controllers that do?

If you need to ask those questions you don't need to be messing with it .
You will need a custom made cable that is wired specifically for the Mst controller.

Controller. Its a single channel LVDS with 720p and 1080i support it also said something about 1080p, it also has DVI, and HDMI. Ill keep looking for single channel controllers.

Just pm Carpow and offer to send him the Lcd and Datasheet and see what he can come up with.
It's easier to get things done overseas because that's where the stuff comes from to begin with. And Carpow has been doing this sort of thing for a while so he'll have more ideas and tools to work with.

mdmfootball, I didn't see DVI or HDMI on that controller... Only analog inputs listed in the datasheet.
Also, why does it need to be single channel LVDS? I could see that if the LCD was dual channel you would need a dual channel controller, but whats wrong with just using one of the two channels on a dual channel controller? Heck, maybe you could use one controller to drive two displays...
The search is on now though...

OH my bad I posted the wrong verison of that controller
heres the one with DVI and HDMI the only difference in the product # was that the HDMI one had an H after it (I changed it up top too). As for the dual channel thing I dont think it works like that I think single goes with single and dual goes with dual but I could be wrong.
EDIT: The more I look at the data sheet the more I think iths dual channel look at page 6 on the data sheet and tell me what you think

Looks like a nice controller if it'll work. I especially like this part:

Integrated HDMI with HDCP support
But it sounds like there may be firmware updates necessary to support the panel natively... Perhaps you could get in contact with them to see what would need to be done and how much for a properly updated controller...

Okay, the WXGA Panel is on it's way!
Jonjandran, if you want to test the panel with the MST controller or any others you have, I think I only live less than 2 hours away from you.
I also might send the panel to MDMfootball. I just have to check how it fits an enclosure I have first.
Again, does ANYONE know how to get the FLI8541 LCD controller from Genesis? It sounds perfect with HDMI, HDCP, Single channel etc.. I don't think it would need anthing other than a custom LVDS cable.

It would need a firmware update to get the resolution and timings right by default. Otherwise you may run into issues where it sees the panel as 1280x1024 like a couple controllers did for the 10.6", or shift the picture to one of the sides like the genesis controller did for the 10.6"... That is not to say that this is necessarily true for this panel, it might just all work together. I'm just putting it out there... I'm very excited to see this work, so I'm hoping for the best.

True, but it's a wxga controller with a wxga panel. The controller is for 16:9 single channel wxga panels (HDTV).
But yeah, the actual timings and pixel offset could be off.
