Here's a pic of the cable we need to extend. It is a 21 pin .3mm Fpc. But if we cut it in the middle to extend it then we need a 19 pin .3mm Fpc because the 2 end pins are connected to the pins next to them on the end of the Fpc.

So if anyone can find me some .3mm 19pin Fpc cable please let me know smile.gif

Using your tape I get 5mm / 16 = 0.3125mm. It may be an imperial pitch=> 0.3175mm.

I've just contated http://www.imperial-connect.co.uk/products/FFCpage.asp, joining the photo of the FFC and trying to explain our problem...

Maybe they'll have a solution for us.

I'm looking for other webSite like this one I'll try to contact them because It's the only solution I see for the moment. wink.gif

They propose "Connector (0.3mm Pitch)" here rolleyes.gif

Hi,
I think that the pitch is 0.3mm (it seems to be a standard)... huh.gif but I can do a mistake so I need some help !!!

I've found this FPC CONNECTOR which seems to be the same as the one already on the panel's controler.
http://www.molex.com/pdm_docs/sd/543932181_sd.pdf

There is lots of other models of connectors on this Web site and I'm going to order some "free sample".
It should be good if some people could order some sample to. wink.gif

... don't forget that even it's the good connector we will have to found the fcc for extension and to make a pcb...
to be continued...

Today, I've tested the kit with HDMI and YUV and it's sure that it's a real bomb !!! biggrin.gif

I was only estimating its pitch. You would need to use callipers to find out for sure.

Your link does seem to be the correct socket. Molex don’t have a 0.3mm pitch cable listed so that will still need to be found.

I planned on selling this lcd awhile ago. But, then Lumenlab said they were going to charge sellers, so I gave up. But if people are interested, I could organize a group buy. I still have contact with a seller who will give me the lcd for $175 (if I buy about 15-20). I also had a couple options for a controller. Ranging in the $100-150 area with hdmi and such. I contacted a company that said they would custom make a ffc cable for me, but since I never had a lcd, I was never able to send them one.

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested. I'm hoping since I would make no profit, Lumenlab would let me do this.

I'm really interested by this "custom ffc" because I already have the Manhattan's kit "lcd + controler".
Because of the FFC issue, my projector design is stopped.

So, for the moment, I've only taken photos of the back of the panel.
Then I've made acurate measures on these photos in order to draw an FFC (or FPC) and try to ask MOLEX (who seems to have the good connector) what will be the price for this custom FFC, to have some other informations, maybe some advices to...

To resume, this panel and his controler are really really good to make a projector but it's difficult to have this "custom ffc"... find connector...
etc... of course, doing it alone is more difficult.

So, if you can give me more informations (compagny, quantity for order, price...) about this "custom ffc proposition", I'm ready to do my possible to have it for us.

During the next days, I'm going to post the photos and measures I took. Maybe it will help some people who want to help us to resolve this ffc issue.

I have a FFC extension coming in about two weeks.

I also have a backlight ballast coming to eliminate the 24v power requirements.

Johnzo1995...

do you have any updates yet on when the FCC extension will be available??? I know that it's barely been two weeks but I'm sure that a lot of LL members are "chomping at the bit" to know!!!

my infocus 550 has been sitting in the closet waiting for this day...all it would need is this panel and a cooler, whiter, and hopefully brighter light source that would work with the existing precon/reflector...
johnzo1995
The FFC cables are on the way. I should have them by Monday.

I will update my store showing the changes.
WhiteChrome
hi johnzo did you get the FFC cables today?
johnzo1995
The cables are being delivered today biggrin.gif

Johnzo the ffc I have received from you; I cannot get it to work. Everytime I put it the ffc back without using the extension, it works fine.
johnzo1995
You need to make sure the cables are inserted all the way.

Are you getting a blue-green screen?
iwantaprojector
There was another clamp thing that you lift up on the ffc extension you provided. I was only trying to slide it in before. I tried opening it and putting it in all the way, it works now. laugh.gif

Stripping the 7.2 wxga. Remove the 4 screws on the back, they are easy to find. You'll need to remove disconnect both the backlight and video FFC cables. To remove the FFCs, pry up the connector at the end then remove the cable. Before you can do that, you need to remove the tape to get to the FFC's. Cut off tape on both sides so you have access to both FFCs, There is also some tape attached to the metal part on the left and right ends of the LCD, seperate that. Also seperate the tape holding down the FFC to the back of the board so it can be lifted up. Once you are able to lift up the FFC board, there is another black screw holding a piece of metal down. Remove that smaller screw. It's a bit hard to remove the lcd from the white casing of the lcd because there is a bit of glue attached to it. You should be able to pry open the side part easily, then with some force seperate the glue in the middle part. The rest should be easy.

Heres a picture of the backlight with LEDS instead of a CCFL tube. The LEDS are attached onto a piece of FFC or something. Interesting.

I don't know if there is a strippible layer on the front. The back is a mirror. Unlike the others which were more silver, this looks like an actual mirror. Usually when u strip the lcd there are a bunch of sheets. Theres also a sheet that flexible and it's like a mirror.

I have just gotten to the part where I am able to do a test setup of a 7.2 wxga projector in action. With the normal setup of lamp, then fresnels then lcd with the board that is folded onto the back facing the triplet end........The end projection result is upsidedown

!!!For the 7.2 wxga build, the lcd should be positioned with the lcd board facing the triplet side as usual. But, put the lcd board on the top sie of the projector not lying on the bottom like most other lcds.

Hi guys. First time posting. Can anyone comment on the perceived ghosting / motion smear caused by the 25 ms response time? Is it pretty bad? Good enough for game playing, etc.?

Thanks for any comments. wink.gif

well i turned mine on briefly and plugged in my xbox 360 and i didn't notice much ghosting at all

Some people will complain about ghosting just because they 'know' that the panel isn't fast enough. I was gamin on a 30ms panel, and not having problems. Go figure.

I theorize that the extra heat (remember, it's struggle to keep these things cool) actually helps. Anyone who has seen an LCD in freezing cold knows that they get much slower. This is because the liquid crystal gets more viscous. Possibly the extra heat makes the crystal respond faster. Who knows, but as stated, most people who've built projectors don't complain about ghosting.

I read through the thread..AAnd a really long one it is.
So Johnzo is selling a Sharp kit w/ pixelworks controller and a custom ffc cable/ There were lots of other posters with alternatives, did all that fizzle out. For 1:1 pixel mapping and image flip, is this the only option ??

Yes Johnzo's kit is the only option smile.gif

How do you do image flip?

I could be wrong zeph, but I thought the pixelworks controller did image flip as well..

I've built a projector using the 7.2 wxga pixelworks kit. It was completed since the beginnning of October. I would really like to post up pics some day.

Is it easy to strip the panel?
I have my panel in and as soon as I get my box made for me I'll put it all together.
I've striped a few 15.4 inch LCDs (3 different kinds) and put one back together even so I hope it will be a piece of cake.
The quality of this LCD is very nice. I might try to build a MID device with one of these and an nvidia ion board later this year.
iwantaprojector
Um, it's not too bad to strip the panel. But I would say it was the most difficult to build a projector for. It's the only one I didn't even try to strip the A/G because no one else has done it (I think), and it's really.......really expensive. When making this projector you'll have to accommodate the fact that you have a ffc extension cable on one end that sticks out about a inch. So your box has to fit that yet having all the lens and lightning centered. Then theres the fact that on the opposite side of the lcd is the lvsd cable that connect the lcd to the controller. Usually for other lcds it comes out somewhere along the bottom board but for this one it's on the side. So the lvsd cable is only so long.....you don't have much option of choosing where you want to put the controller board. Oh, and you need to put the lcd upsidedown as well. So that means, the lcd is standing up vertically and then the board that's attached to the lcd with flexible cables is supposed to be on the top ceiling side of the projector.

Pictures Time! wink.gif

I really like how I did this part. The lcd holder and that peice of wood on the side that seperates the wiring and helps block out light. It also acts to hold the fresnels in place. I realized that it's not good to make frensels TOO tight that you can't easily adjust them. The fresnels are being held by....the walls and weather stripper on the sides so I can ealy slide them in and out when I want to. If I want to adjust the fresnels I just remove the tape and put it on again. No fresnel frames smile.gif . Those two pieces of wood that are "T" shaped. They are glued together. So is the power supply, it's glued on. It's all in one peice. So it can be adjusted.

I cut part of the remote IR board off. Theres one part for turning on and off the lcd for the board. I kept that. Theres another part of the board that lets you change options on the remote but with the board instead of controller. I wasn't able to find a way to put it in front and make it look nice so I just removed it.
It's better that way.
