I'm thinking about installing ceiling speakers into a drop ceiling for my projector home theater. However, I want to keep in a budget of around 100-150 for speakers. I want decent mid-range speakers that won't sound too tinny. Most of the home theater speakers intended for ceiling mount are too pricey (JBL, Infinity, etc) and a lot of the cheap ceiling speakers on ebay seem to be for ambient listening (offices, businesses). Any suggestions?

Do you mean that you want to spend around $100 to $150 on the surrounds alone? They dont have to be speakers intended to ceiling mount, you could all ways get a nice set of speakers off ebay for about $30 and get the cages to put them in for about $30.

I bought a set of Pyle brand 2-way ceiling speakers for around $150 total. Theyre budget speakers but they sound pretty good.

$150? I dont mean to bring you down on your buy.......but $150 seems a little to much for 1 pair

. Did they come with anything?

I meant that I spent about $150 total on 5 speakers total. I bought 4 6.5 2-ways, and for the center channel I bought an 8-inch 2-way. I bought an older model JVC dolby 5.1 receiver to power the ceiling speakers on ebay for about $100. It came out pretty good, it's quite an upgrade from using crappy stereo computer speakers on the floor below the projection area.

Personally, I would recommend that you try not to use in-ceiling speakers. They usually don't sound as good at regular speakers. Try to at least use wall mounted (not in wall) for the front and center channels. The rear surround don't matter as much. This is what I usually do and its much better. Go over to Magnolia or some sort of A/V store and listen to the two different kinds. I am sure you will like the wall mounted much better. Also, wall mounted are usually cheaper for better quality. If you want to go all in-wall at least get a really good speaker for the center considering about 80% of the sound comes out of it in surround systems.

I just chose ceiling speakers because of the drop ceiling in the finished part of the basement. Plus the location in the room makes it awkward to mount wall speakers. I just thought it was a bargain for how it sounds

Wall mounted speakers are not really that big, but its your room. At least get a really good speaker for the center channel. That will really make a difference.
