hello all,

i am knowledgable with my onkyo 6.1 receiver and theater setup but always was leniant on building an HTPC because of sound issues. last night i powered up my setup and am going optical output to my onkyo receiver but am really having a hard time getting it to work properly. it shows digital PCM but i cannot get a dolby digital input to show up on my setup. all i can get is either pro logic II or DTS neo. is there something i am missing? i am used to the dvd player or xbox 360 setups just automatically changing over to whatever the signal is.

i am using this sound card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16829120103 i have vista ultimate and with media center i was playing a movie and couldnt do anything but PL II or fake DTS. I got power dvd last night but kind of defeats the purpose of media center but havent tried it yet. Please any information would be great.

No experience with Vista MCE and limited with PowerDVD, but I have a ton of experience with the Chaintech.

What drivers are you using?

Assuming you have already gone into both the PowerDVD configuration and the Chaintech's Audio Deck and set up both for s/pdif out, you might want to trying installing AC3filter and selecting that as your audio decoder.

From what I understand MCE's audio decoder is/was buggy, but I'm surprised they haven't cleared that up by now.

I use Media player (not MCE) with my onkyo 7.1 setup. In the options of media player there was a setting for s/pdif and as sendibull said there is an option on the sound card driver. As for the receive, i leave it on 'Direct' and it picks the correct mode for what ever media the PC sends it.

If k-lite will work with vista say the heck with that. Before you go buying anything, search for the k-lite codec pack. DL the full one, and do a search on ffdshow, as well as remap your speakers in the media player classic preferences. If that doesn't work, then go buy something.
