Hi all, my brother has an ally projector which i dont think has been right since he got it christmas time. It has a problem with the optics i think. It has been opened up by myself and my dad and cant see any obvious reasons, perhaps a fresnel placed the wrong way? the center of the picture though is perfectly in focus.

also when using the projector, he has to keystone it to get the top half of the projector in focus. The keystoning is really severe and the image does not look too square. even though the image is perfectly clear and focussed (apart for the corners ofcourse) thanks in advance for any help you can give me. cheers

Was it bought new, did it have the exact same problem when he first got it, is it worse now, did one of you change something that made it that way?

Yes it was new and no, it was like that when he first got it, its as though the front fresnal is bent towards the extreme edges somehow. its weir. but its not enough to bother him, but it botheres me. Personally i would have sent it back. thanks for your help

Too bad. I'm sure it's probably also impossible get local service from the company. No doubt it's out of the country likely China which means he has to pay all the shipping.

I was going to agree that it sounds like the rear fresnel may be backwards because if the rear fresnel was reversed the light would start to converge before it hit the lcd and the second fresnel. This would produce a visible light circle closer to the center with darker out of focus edges on the outer part of the projection.

However if as you say the front fresnel is bent on the edges then that would definitely cause a blur on the outsides. I don't remember the fl of the fresnel but I think it was posted somewhere near the beginning of the EVO thread dated early 2006. If that's the problem and you can't get a replacement, you may be able to force it back in shape by making a small frame to stop it from bending. Usually in a diy that happens when fresnels have no frame.

One thing that's puzzling, I just bought a similar box used from another member here and haven't opened it up but I would have thought that since the front fresnel is connected to the vertical keystone adjustment knob on its horizontal axis it would have been supported by a frame of some type and this would prevent it from warping. Turning this knob basically makes the fresnel pivot backwards or forwards by 15 degrees in either direction to perform the verticle keystone adjustment. Maybe the fresnel is hooking or dragging on something inside the case and then using force to turn the adjustment knob is what bent the fresnel.
