Full Version: 100" Screen For $60
Lumenlab > Audio Video Sciences > Home Theater > Home Theater Screens
bek
It's listed here:

http://www.amazon.com/Ultra-ULT31924-Proje...9379&sr=8-1

But there's no gain listed. Nor do I know if it's wall-mountable.

Anyone have any experience with it?
Durachko
Some of the pictures they are using for their other screens appear to be the same pictures used here at Lumenlab.

Quote from one of the reviews on Tigerdriect's website, who actually sells the thing.

"I ordered this screen not expecting much for the price. Boy, was I wrong! Hangs flat and the mechanism works fine. This screen does not seem to have much, if any, gain, so the viewing angle is excellent. Works very well with my InFocus ScreenPlay 5000 projector."

Does appear to be wall mountable

I'll let you know since I just bought one but not that exact one. Should have it by early next week. I needed a 100" 4:3.

Can someone subjectively compare-such to a Wilsonart Designer-white screen?
HapHazard
Good/old Starband is flaky, as usual, I see...<g>
Durachko
rolleyes.gif You want a second opinion I guess? laugh.gif
HapHazard
Nope...want advice on which for myself...
[Can't LL-forum offer deletion of posts?]
Durachko
I wuz ribbing you about the double post. biggrin.gif

I'll give you my opinion in a week or two. smile.gif
Durachko
BTW my shipping came to around $28 rounded up. smile.gif

I'd wager this screen is just fine for the price.

If you want any "scientific" comparisons, Hap, just ask once I get it.

I did just a little investigating... Draper is the manufacturer. Just an fyi.

I went ahead and placed an order. I figure for $75 shipped from TigerDirect, I really can't go wrong.

Caught-that...but I had triple-posted, so had to edit it to say _something_ 'on topic' (so as not to look COMPLETELY-moronic...).

I never even noticed. dry.gif
Durachko
HH I'd never take you for a moron. smile.gif

I now have the screen and a full set of DaLite samples. The screen looks to be a gain of close to 1.0. It's built okay judging by a first glance and a couple of tugs and returns of the screen. Definitely a budget screen. One could destroy it by allowing it to return unrestricted when rolling it up. I have not yet fully extended and retracted the screen.

The screen arrived in good condition via UPS and was well packaged.

The end cap hanging method is fairly crappy IMHO but it's a budget screen. Wait, didn't I already say that? tongue.gif

Once I get it hung I'll string up some of the DaLite samples in front of it and post some comparison pics.

I haven't done a good "touch test" to compare the actual surfaces of this screen and the DaLite samples.

not sure why but the cost of that 100" screen + shipping from Tiger is $113.00 but the 106" screen + shipping is only $104.00

Sounds like the price might have changed. The cost of the screen for me from Tiger was $60 + $15 shipping.

As a side note... it's my first screen, so I have nothing to judge it by, but with my Infocus IN72, the picture is freaking awesome. It's feels like watching my TV, only much bigger! I am extremely happy with both my choices of projector and screen.

EDIT: Nah, the price hasn't changed. I just checked Tiger and it's still $60. Maybe you found a different screen on there.
Durachko
I haven't yet had the opportunity to use mine but I'll post something when I do. I have little doubt it'll knock my socks off compared to the wavy bedsheet I was using. laugh.gif

I just had this screen delivered today and I am very disappointed. I hung it in front of my LL blackout cloth and my daughter says "it looks the same". She is 100% right. It is just a screen that is white. Nothing more. I need to do some painting.

Hmm... "a screen that is white." I have to ask, did you expect something different?

Someone else said it has a gain of about 1.0. Don't know if that matters to you or not, though.
Ecopure
Yes, I expected something a little different than a piece of blackout cloth

? I guess what I'm asking is, what is different about this white screen than any other white screen? Especially for $60... ?

The screen you received is effectively the same as blackout cloth except for the following:
  • It is ready to hang and quite planar (at least mine is)
  • It is probably easier to clean if/when necessary by wiping (check the instructions that came with it)
  • It is retractable
  • It has a black border
Not sure just what you were expecting? Maybe you should have asked here prior to purchasing?
lowridese
I bought one of those screens for my sister and they are not bad and Durachko you are right its the nice price being wall mountable and having black borders and all but there is nothing special but the price is great. I have seen that and also have had a stretched canvas screen fixed and now have the wilsonart and i love the wilsonart. Watched Tokyo Drift last night and it looked great off my HTPC setup. I paid 80 plus tax for the wilsonart well sorry minus 10 percent military discount smile.gif at lowes so 50 plus shipping is good.
HapHazard
How would you compare 'gain'/brightness/clarity betwixt the std.-screen and the Wilsonart (scale of 1-10, maybe...)?

Well to be honest the brightness and color depth is much more eminent on the wilson art from the dalite screen and also a custom DIY stretched canvas i had. was very impressed to the wilsonart and the price was great. For the money i would rate the wilsonart at probably an 8.5 or 9 to be honest. It even looked better last night when i ran my HTPC at 1600x1200 with tokyo drift it looked great the colors were very rich.

Hope this helps, you will not go wrong if you can afford to have a fixed screen. (IMO they look so much more professional if you can have a fixed, the pull down reminds me too much of my school days smile.gif

Mike
Durachko
I'd have gone with fixed were it not for the WAF.

I just posted some screenies from my commercial in my ploD. Direct link to post. Included in the screenies are some DaLite samples.

What would be the difference between this screen (100" 4:3 you guys bought from tigerdirect for 60$) and the one lumenlab sells for 175$ (108" wide) ?!?!?
I know the gain is not the same, but is the picture look way better ? or just look the same ?

Does it cost 115$ more only because it is wide, 8" bigger, and electronic ? or it is really a better screen?
pb_maxxx
an electric screen will always cost considerbly more than a manual pull down screen... due to the
mechanism involved.

if you are going to compare them... compare tiger direct's $60 manual screen (before shipping) to the $59 manual screen (before shipping) from lumenlab.

You are comparing 100" from tiger direct with 70" from LL !!

LL mentionned that manual vs electric cost 50$ less !
So 179$ - 50$ is 129$...
So lumenlab sells their 108" for 129$ and tiger direct sells their 100" for 60$
Does more then doubling the price worth the 8" ?
Or the screen is just better ?

I can't find any screen shot of the lumenlab vs any other screen !!
greeneyed
Might want to check the price again. It is $80 now. So it is not doubling the price. The LL screen also has 1.6:1 gain. Not immense, but when you are talking about low lumen projectors any gain is always nice. Ultimately it is up to you. How much you want to spend.
GeniuS312
not much ... I don't have much!
Thats is why I am asking ! I would buy a screen and keep it a while so, if you guys tell me that the LL screen with 1.5:1 gain really worth the price, then I ll go with it and keep it for long time !
I will probably have an eVo this summer while I make my own DIY so the screen is an important thing. I don't wanna change the screen every year for a better one, and I don't have the money to pay like 300$ for a 100" wide !
So I m searching for the best compromise!
The best would be to paint my wall with a good mixture, but I don't have a wall for it !

For now, what I have found is that I can pay 80$ from tiger direct for a 100" which is not bad at all (confirme with screen shot), and a LL screen 108" electronic for 179$ which SEAMS to be good (no screen shot). All the comment I got for the LL screen, is: "for the price, not that bad"!

The best would be to have 2 shot from both screen to compare, but I don'T think anybody has those 2 screen in hand sad.gif

Listen, those are both budget screens, so your quality different is probably going to be miniscule. To someone like me and you, who are regular people and haven't viewed 100 different screens and compared, I am sure we won't be able to tell much if any difference. The $60 TigerDirect looks great--I watch my movies on it. I bet the LL electric one looks great, too. The only real questions are, how much do you want to pay and do you want electric or pull-down?
GeniuS312
Yeah, well my big concern is that am I ready to pay more for something I don't know if it is better !
But since the only difference I can find is 1.5:1 vs 1:1 gain, 1.5:1 ill be better for me !
So I guess I ll go with LL screen !
I wish I could have this screen but manual tongue.gif
Thank you guys !
