My screen is an Elite Screen. It is 100 inches long, and has a 16:9 format; model number M100UWH. The only thing wrong with it, is the retracting mechanism is broken, so that it always wants to retract up. I have a heavy weight tied to the string at the middle, but the weight causes ripples in the screen. I'd rather repair this item, if possible.

Is there a way to fix it? Does anyone have a schematic or point me to a website that shows how?

I don't know, but if you can take it apart without it going 'SPROING!', you might be able to see what's wrong, and fix it. Maybe something has just come adrift, and needs to be put back in place. Or maybe something actually broke.

You could use the contact link on their website and ask them about it. How old is it? Looks like a 1yr warranty if you bought it new.

Good luck.

I was searching for this brand of screen and came across this, I apologize for digging up a relatively old thread. Most likely, the spring attaches to a pivot point with just a loop on the end of the spring that hooks around a pin. The spring probably got unhooked and just has to be stretched and locked back into place. My guess anyways. That's the way most other spring mechanisms work.

Late for advice, but I'll post it anyways;

If you can't fix it, put weights at the edges instead of the center.

I second this idea. Or put simple brass hooks in the wall to catch the ends of the bottom bar. This is actually a method I investigated to remove the dreaded V waves so common in retractable screens.
