I bought my 10.6 panel (w/ Genesis 5221) from another member, and I can't get it working - I seem to be having the same problems as Gecko. I am pretty sure that it worked for the other member, so I think it might have been damaged in shipping, but cannot tell. I hook the controller up to the backlight and all turns on fine and well. The moment I hook up the LCD, nothing happens - even the LED doesn't go on. If I disconnect the backlight (thinking there aren't enough amps to go around), the LCD still doesn't turn on. I've tried 2 12v 1A power supplies with this, and same behavior. I've been following wiring photos that I've seen in other threads and reposted here.

Where could I go from here? Do I have a fried panel? If so, there is shipping insurance we can try claiming. Is there any kind of panel warranty that Carpow extends to us? I know these are really sensitive (I've been wearing an antistatic strap the whole time) so I don't want to needlessly inconvenience you or Carpow or Johnzo if I don't have to. Thanks for your thoughts.

(I will post pics as soon as my camera batter charges from nothing!)

I should add that I haven't removed the panel from the backlight yet.

Saying the LED doesnt come on makes me wonder if you have the right + and - polarity on the power supply, I know it should be standard but you do get some electrical goods that have the polarity the other way round for some reason.

If the backlight isnt bothered what way round the polarity is then it might still worth while the rest of the board does nothing or worse still, pops a fuse?

I dont recomment anyone just changed polarity to see as this may cause harm, just double check which way round the polarity is on the board and make sure the power supply is set the right way, many adapters have reversible polarity.

If the LED is not turning on, that is what you should focus on first. It's negative tipped like Death says. If you have that backwards you might damage the screen.

Thanks for your replies Death & Shiver,
I think I have to disagree. My Radio Shack PS has a reversible plug, so I can reverse the polarity by flipping the plug around, but when I do, nothing comes on at all. I think that the panel might be hosed. Unless you think that there might be something else I can look at. Camera's almost charged up, so I'll take some pics in when it's ready.

Don't flip the polarity...simply insure (with a paperclip to a grounded plug-screw, if need be) that the hole/center in DC plug is the Positive.
Also, never plug/unplug stuff when powered/On.
Having said all-that (which you propbably knew already) lets discuss your PS. Do you have a larger-one? 1A may simply be to-weak (depending on wattage-max). I tested with a regulated 4.3, and then went down to a 2.0 (I believe 2.0 is minimal, with backlight, anyway). You may also try yours with the TV/daughtercard removed...
Also, is the 'white spot' on the board-connector for the LVDS-cable facing the inputs on-card?
Are you using left-most button on OSD for Off/On (lights change from red>green) and the rightmost to cycle betwixt Inputs?
[BTW, if 'flexed', it's easy to break the thin backlight on frame-bottom. If it is broken (for whatever reason), then it will be impossible to 'see image' unless you do remove lcd from other-stuff and 'hold to light'.]

I did forget to ask if the two power supplys you tried are regulated or not.

An unregulated power supply will put out about 18 volts with no load and drop as more load is added, if your board, lcd and backlight are pulling more than 1 amp then it will drop your voltage below 12 volts so you could be only getting 6-8 volts.

Always use a regulated PS with more amps than you will need with electronic equipment.

Aha! It was the white spot - I can't believe I didn't think of that!! drink.gif Thank you again for your responses. Woo hoo! So this class has learned that 1 amp is ok for both items, and to track back entirely how things are plugged in.

Thanks!!!

Another satisfied-customer...<g>
So...we'll be looking for a plog, and participation in the 10.6-thread (it ain't NEAR big-enough yet).
My Plog lists other-plogs...read 'em all, and links there-in.
Oh ... and 'welcome aboard'.
