Watched it with my girlfriend and afterwards she refused to be in a room alone in the house. It is worth the money to rent it, there is also a foregin version (japanese I think) from which the american version originated but I haven't seen that yet.

I watched the Japanese version of the Ring after I saw the US versions, and the US version is superior IMHO (something you can't usually say about US remakes of non-US films). It was just too hard for me to relate to the emotionally restricted Japanese characters.

Someone else already mentioned it - but I have to second "Evil Dead" - the original - something about that movie just creeps me out - its a "B" movie but man..... It always comes to mind and I haven't seen the thing in 20 years.

Maybe it's just me but wouldn't every single movie ever made be "better" on a big screen.
I love the killer tomato films, I didn't even know about the last 2, I wish they were available on dvd.

1) Blair Witch Project.
There's something really cool about how you never see what's freakin the characters out, just their reactions to it. Really showcases the actors' talent when you can get scared just watching them get scared...
2) Event Horizon
When I first rented this, I thought it was Sci-Fi - Not at all. It's a great horror flick in Sci-Fi clothing.
3) Fire in the Sky
Killer alien abduction movie!
4) Scream
Great flick, good plot twists. Too bad the 2nd and 3rd were just typical sequals "Let's see if we can make some more money off the same old idea..."

Oh yeah, I have to agree with the Original Evil Dead. Just the fact that the original was not supposed to be funny, they were actually trying to be scary makes it even funnier. It also explains why Evil Dead 2 and army of Darkness were so great! They realized how stupid the plot was and just decided to capitalize on it...
And as long as were talking about bad horror, someone has to say it: Rocky Horror Picture Show...

Scary movies? Umm.... 'The Thing' and 'Alien' freaked me out. Another creepy one (but cornier) is 'Poltergeist'. 'The Shining' made me never ever want to crawl through the bathroom window of a deserted inn in the middle of the night while a psycho was chasing me with a meat cleaver. I'm still lookin for me wits!
Somebody said Donald Sutherland was in the scariest movie they ever saw. Wasn't Body snatchers. Might have been 'Don't Look Now' (1973).
But THE movie that scared me the most was the one I saw at the wee age of 14 starring.. John Holmes. (It still gives me nightmares.) I definately do NOT want to see THAT on the big screen!!

1. Salem's Lot, with David Saul: When I watched that when I was in first grade and I woke up at every sound of the wind, creak of the trees across the yard.
2. Phantasma: I used to live by a dark mortuary, and a Mosoleum.

Event Horizion.
This is THE scariest movie I have ever seen. I dont I was able to sleep without at least one light on in my room for weeks after seeing it. Go and rent it and prepare to be scared s***less.

I'm sorry FrostKaiser, but I have to disagree with you here. 'Event Horizion' was one of the worst movies I've ever seen - and a total disappointment.
To be fair, it's been so long since I've seen it that I can't remember why I hated it so much.
But if it scared you... then I hate to imagine what would happen if someone snuck up behind you and said, "Boo!"

Requiem for a Dream. It's not really a horror movie, but it scared the hell out of me. Of course I just had my wisdom teeth out at the time and I was whacked out on pain killers, but during that scene when they flashed back and forth between the four main characters at the end of the movie while the Psycho-esque string quartet played almost killed me.

hehe! don't laugh, but when i was about 7 i watched "the fog", it had me sitting all curled up on the couch beside my parents!
i watched it again about a year ago and thought it was pretty cheesy but hey! i was only 7!
the wife thinks poltergeist was pretty scarry.
along with return of the living dead, night of the living dead and dawn of the dead, basically anything to do with dead people!
i still think aliens (the second one) looked really good on my PJ!

I saw Event Horizon when I was a lot younger, like pre teen, scared the sh*t out of me. I also thought Stir Of Echoes was quite good.
Anyone else pick up on the image of "the ring" that kept randomly appearing between scenes for 1 frame in that movie. I never noticed it until my mate noticed it one night, we all thought he was full of it, till we went frame by frame through the last few secs of film and saw it.

Maybe somebody could help me here. I remember seeing a movie when I was really young, about a kid who has cannibal parents. His dad works at a morgue and is always cooking up almost raw human steaks. If you know what this is, please let me know! Thanks guys!

It has to be around 17 years old. I have no idea. I thought it was called "Parents" or something, but I have never found it anywhere. One of those quality movies with meat hooks in the basement. Good stuff. It didn't really seem funny to me when I saw it at the age of 7. Oh well!
