FYI: This site produces some extremely good products. They also have great support and a DIY forum to share ideas. They also give optimal enclosure sizes and wiring instructions and for free. for <400 dollars you can build a top notch HT sub.

$400 blink.gif You could buy one for a 1/2 or maybe 1/3 of that.

you could buy a sub for $50.. but it will probably sound like crap. DIY applications will typically offer better sound than comparatively priced consumer models.

I am by no means an expert, but I researched enough to build my own sub and basically came to the conclusion that there are two classes of subwoofers out there (excluding all the crap psuedo subs not worth mentioning). Those that can go loud and those that can go low and loud while maintaining a relatively smooth frequency response. Unless you are willing to build your own (which shaves anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand, depending on just how outrageous a sub you want to build) you have to spend $400-500 minimum to get the latter. That price continues to come down, though. Before SVS and HSU started producing affordable, quality subs it was a lot more.

Check out this guy's "twin towers" from the DIY thread over on AVS. Is it me, or is he in dire need of a projector to balance out those ridiculous things. post-418-1138501501.gif
