Happy one month anniversary to me! Though I've been lurking for a while, today marks 28 days that I've been legit and I thought I'd celebrate with a chick flic-athalon!

*Lumen Lab members shake their heads whilst the Duchess, bedecked in apron and clenching a wooden spoon in a shaking fist over her head cries, "You'll eat and like it!" The response: "Like heck we will!"*

The following are mostly period (don't even start... seriously, you'll regret it) romantic films. I picked them because of lush color and dazzling landscapes, and because no one ever shows them and they're just so darn pretty!

My set up:

--Hannspree 800x600 LCD TV Strip guide here: http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18584 Also includes other screenies and pics of the enclosure.
--Old Black LL e-ballast
--Eiko 4200K 400w
--Standard LL lens kit
--Polished Ikea reflector
--4x 80mm fans run by an Aerogate III controller

To begin with, Girl with the Pearl Earring

No, it's not hi-def, but the image is sharper in real life.

Love this painting.

Kate Winslet in Sense and Sensibility. I think she was 19 for this movie -- crazy talented.

That's it for this evening. I do have some "guy" movies, if you want to make requests (and I have them) I'll get shots posted. Thanks for putting up with the estrogen fest! biggrin.gif

"Guy movies" ? hmmm. I'm guessing we are only talking <R rating? tongue.gif

Some of the movies I'll be watching on my shortly after it is done are. Troy, Labyrinth(don't ask), Time Machine, Sixth Sense, and a few others. Those are just some of the movies that are on top of my 'Haven't seen in awhile' list.

Why not ask about Labyrinth? It's only one of the best movies ever! I have that (and Dark Crystal) and the Sixth Sense. I'll test those out tomorrow. I also have the Matrix Trilogy, LOTRs, n stuff. Tomorrow will be "guy" day then. smile.gif

Glad to have you aboard.

If they ever get the pro relector in you might try it. It is fairly cheep and will add some brightness and for your lamp it will also raise the color temp slightly.

Some day, if I have to, I'll ask for some advice for a good chick flick or two.

How about some pics of your projector and set up?

I like that. Only if you have to. biggrin.gif

I may get the pro reflector, but this lil pj is moving on shortly -- on my way to a 17" build here soon. This screen does have a "cool temp" setting on it and it does make whites look whiter, but I like warmer color schemes (que faux pas!) so I'm good to go especially since this pj isn't my keeper (neither will the 17"...).

I imagine for someone who overdrives lamps above 1000 watts ohmy.gif , this brightness is shameful, but the image is more than watchable and a higher gain screen couldn't hurt. smile.gif

For TESCORP (I actually have an order in with you for my "keeper" wink.gif ):

All things being equal, my wife got me into Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth (originally shown by the BBC and now available on DVD) Truth time hurts, but I do love watching all 6 hours of that movie!

That said, nice job. I like your mounting of connects and fans. It looks great!

One of the Matrix-developers/brothers _used_ to be a guy (no more, though... he/she must have taken the Blue-pill, then watched too-many Merchant Ivory trashola-epics!). [But, I doubt he has issues with 'period-pieces' even-now...!]

very nice job smile.gif
I was tempted to open one of those cute hansprees myself.

How bout a sick-chick flic?
Pan's Labyrinth shots would go nice with your current screenie selections biggrin.gif

Also i will mention for sharts and goggles...
I was looking for "superbit" titles (like the popular Fifth Element DVD) on ebay, and Dark Crystal was one of them.

PS
You have my vote for funniest plog title of 07

Ashembers, the A&E Pride and Prejudice is a classic among classics. Everytime my sisters have a scrapbook party that's what we watch (hate scrapbooking myself, if I'm gonna kill a tree I'm gonna make something sturdy). In fact, I've made "back ups" of it on DVD for every female in my family. And if the transfer didn't suck balls, I would have posted shots of it.

HapHazard, the Wachowski brothers are different, but absurdly smart. And yes, one of them was even smart enough to trade up genders! tongue.gif laugh.gif

Thanks Yohsuaspawn. I was thinking of one the day's theme for screenies being "movies that star a young woman who wonders into mystical alternate realities where she is royalty and saves said mystical realm before learning to behave and get over herself and return to reality". Included titles would be: Return to OZ, Labyrinth (here today), Pan's Labyrinth, Alice in Wonderland and Mirrormask. I seriously loved Pan's Labyrinth -- nearly screamed a couple of times and I'm not a screamer. wink.gif

So to start off with a few shots from King Kong:

This is "nuetral" before I switched to "cool" on the screen settings -- same actor as Smyke from Nicholas Nickelby.

Cool, I'll snag some more tomorrow. Come to think of it guys, showing your wives these chick flic pics may help convince them that they need you to build a projector. Just tryin' to further the cause! biggrin.gif

Oh and I've already had a slumber party with my girlfriends and watched movies on the pj, but I won't bore you with the details of our pillow fight...

First... WOW!, haven't seen that movie in some time. Will have to go get that this weekend I think.

Second, Details are always welcome when it comes to many girls in a room spanking each other. (errr, smacking I guess)

Jennifer Connelly was 14 when this movie was made. I can't even imagine carrying a film that had been in pre-production half your lifetime. The girl deserved the Oscar even if she hasn't done anything good lately. Why, Jenny, why'da make Dark Water? biggrin.gif

Thank you. The screen has a DC power brick that puts out 12v at 3.3 to 3.5 amps.

Mordeth, I believe the word-for-word quote is "But thems my jewels! Give 'em back! You give those back!" Which, consequently, I'm guessing you would never want to say to a woman. blink.gif laugh.gif

Hi,
Duchess, if you liked Amelie you might like A Very Long Engagement done by the same creator. The visuals are intense and purposeful. It is what I call a super-hyphenate movie. It is a Period Romance Film-World War One Epic-Detective Mystery Story. As someone who has seen Amelie and liked it, I should note that there are strong adult situations in both French films (not for the kids). Also, in A Very Long Engagement the war scenes and a few others have realistic violence.
Hope you enjoy one of my favorite films,

I heard that A Very Long Engagement was awesome. I've been meaning to see it. Thanks!

I forgot to mention to yoshuaspawn earlier that I love your avatar! "Man, that hotdog is really annoying."

Okay a few more shots of Emma. I'm gonna go for quality (hopefully) over quantity today and I think these today will be my last until I test out a glass bead screen. Yeah, I know high power are better, but it's here and might as well.

Emmy Rossum, yet another very talented girl. She was 16 (the actual age of Christine Daae in the novel) when this was filmed and kicked the tar out of Sarah Brightman's performance.
