a guy at work. I've known about them for quite some time, but never messed with a Mini-ITX
motherboard. Apparently they go for quite a bit but I got this one for $60, and spent another
$20 on a 512MB CF card since it will work as a hard drive for the OS.
It's an 800Mhz VIA C3 512MB PC133 board, and the real question is what to do with it...
I've been messing around with the idea of running a Carputer, and it would definitely be fun.
However, then I would need to buy a VGA monitor for my car and those are really hurtful to
your wallet as far as I can tell. I may be able to find some crappy PCI (this doesn't have an
AGP slot, but a PCI riser board with 4 slots) card with RCA out and get one of those little crap
LCDs, but that wouldn't look very awesome.
I may be able to find one of the same LCDs that I used for my first build which weren't too
bad on the scaling, being 320x234 (I can maybe run it at 640x480 or something). Finding a
good small LCD is bothering me, but I think I can find one eventually. I would love to have
a touchscreen one, but there is some person on eBay selling a USB touchpad for around $25,
and newegg has those keyboard/stick wireless keyboards as well for fairly cheap. Touch is
definitely better.
My major problem with a Carputer is power. I need +12V, -12V, +5V and GND. Obviously I
have the +12V and GND direct in the car, but how do you make -12V and +5V? Help.
*** As a side note, nLite is awesome. I got Win2K down to 180MB for the CF card I'm using.
