Full Version: Bulb Worked, And Now Doesn't

Hi, I purchased the e-ballast and the I think t-15 bulb from the lumenlab store, and it worked good for less than a month, and just in the past few days it turns on, but its dimmer than a 40 watt bulb.
Also when it was working, a lot of the times I turned it on and it didn't work so I turned it off and waited around 15 minutes and when I tried it again, it worked. I made sure that there was no arching (I think it's called) and the metal in the mogul base is up as high as I can get it.
If anyone could help me with this it would be appreciated.

I wouldn't expect the bulb to start 1st time every time. Its best to just turn the ballast on and let it sit on until the bulb ignites. The ballast will automatically attempt to restrike the bulb over and over until it ignites. Turning it off and letting it sit won't really do anything. Sometimes I have to let my eBallast and T15 sit 20+ minutes before the bulb ignites, while other times it ignites first shot.. just luck of the draw.

Now, as far as a dim bulb is concerned, it could be either the ballast or the bulb. The fact that the ballast can ignite the bulb in the first place though tells me its able to provide enough voltage and current (it takes a ton to ignite the bulb, much much less to keep it running), but possibly has problems regulating the output once its ignited. Alternately, the bulb could be borked. Only way to check really is to try a different bulb, assuming you see no physical damage to anything.

Hi, thanks for the help but I bought a new ballast from harris an roome, it was the ballast, because it works great now.
The thermostat failed so the fans didn't come on, which ended up melting one of the fresnels, and also ruining the e-ballast, so now I have it on a switch.
Thanks for the replies though, and also I didn't know that the ballast re-strikes the bulb so thanks for that as well

Your fans should come on automatically when power is supplued to the bulbs. The therostat should supply power to the fans when you turn power off to the bulb, so the fans will continue spinning until the interior of the enclosure reaches X degrees and the thermostat shuts off.
