I was wondering about the same thing - seems like the HD-DVD will upscale DVD's to a full 1080p which I like, but I have not seen any hard images on how well this is done & how it compares to an HD-DVD at all. All in all, 2 Benjamin Franklins ain't too bad for that as a player.

I dont' know that it upscales native 480p to 1080p - it will just play them. read -> compatible. It does not, however, work natively with MCE. you have to get the PowerDVD Ultra, $100, and play it thru that, so far as I have seen.

I've read that it does upscale, however, it does not upscale over component, only the VGA cable... apparently there is some sort of rule against upscaling over component. This sounds kinda fishy to me, so I was planning to do more research. I recently bought an xbox360 and plan to give the HD DVD a whirl on my G2A controller, so i'll know something more soon... of course I was gonna PM jonjandran as I believe he's already doing this...

cheers,

You can also play .wmv files on the Xbox 360 without modding. Just burn your .wmv to a DVD/DL and the Xbox will play it at 720p, 1080i, or whatever you have your xbox set up for. Of course this isn't better than buying the HD player and getting 1080P but it is an easy way for people without a 1080p PJ to watch 720p/1080i files.
