I finished my PJ a while ago but never really did anything to make it in a home theater. Maybe if I start a HLOG I'll actually do something to the room...

For seating I currently have an old three piece sectional and a new leather recliner. I have debated on movie style seats or actual home theater seats but found I don't have the budget for either... The current seating works, but its hard to see if you're in the back row (see pic)

I've gathered a small collection of AV components:

15" PJ - Haas Style

1000w Onkyo 7.1 HTIB

HTPC (AMD FX2 64 4200+, 2GB ram)

6 Disc DVD player (which I never use...)

Xbox (original not a 360, which I also never use...)

Nextvision N6 Transcoder (for Xbox/DVD player)

I plan to add Bass shakers and a second amp to power them and I'd like to get a Da-lite screen. I've also been toying with media center software and the idea of setting up a media server to power every TV in the house (but lets defer that to a later topic and focus on the theater room wink.gif )

The room is a good size. My current projection is 120" (yes I know the image says 10' 5/8", I couldn't get sketch up to only show 10'). I'd like to celling mount my PJ and build a custom desk / AV rack / Storage area some where in the room (not sure where yet). If I can fit it in I'd also like to have a small bar with at least two seats.

Here's some pics of the current layout.

Looks great but i do see 2 problems the people in the second row are not going to like that seat unless its a couple just to make out during the movie smile.gif and also running those wires from comp and xbox to projector looks like a problem. But hey I am just throwing out some suggestions.

Can you elevate the back seats - ie put them on an MDF 'box' say 2' high. Maybe with a draw on the aisle side to store surplus but related stuff.

yea, the back row is a problem. usually its only 2 or 3 people watching the movie and no body sits back there anyways. The wires are not really a problem i only have one VGA cable running from the AV rack to the PJ. i have it running under the recliner and no one has tripped over it (yet). This problem will be fixed when I celling mount the PJ.

its a room in the basement and celling is low (only about 7 feet high). I've thought about building a 8" raiser for the back row but I might be getting rid of the sectional all together and replacing it with one row of seating, so the raiser plan has been put on hold.

How tall is the projector? If you ceiling mount it now people sitting behind may have the image blocked in the top because of the projector?

If not then I would suggest a smaller sofa or loveseat with recliners for your viewing, then perhaps a pair of these from Costco that would be under the projector location for overflow seating.

Then you could still have a clean view of your fireplace when the theater's not in use

There is also a similar unit at Staples but its more of a gaming chair and less for as ht furniture

Here an image in a ht theater adjacent to some berklines

Thats a cool chair!! I like the idea that it folds into an ottoman when not needed (and extra storage is aways a plus!).

I've never been to a Costco, i'm not even sure if there is one near me.. i'll have to look it up

Not many updates to posts, not much has been done... I've moved the sectional around, but i don't know if i like it...

I have a plan for moving my AV rack and computer desk to the other side of the room (near the screen beside the fire place) and then put a small bar area where the desk was. I'm working on an updated drawing but its not done yet (should have it posted soon)

I ordered a 2 way VGA amp from monosprice (pid 231 $21) hopefully this will work better the VGA Y cable I was using (Y cable caused a dark picture).

I have today and tomorrow off work so there might be some activity in the room (more then just watching movies that is laugh.gif )

stay tuned, more updates soon.. smile.gif

edit: added monoprice link

I saw those at Costco thought about picking two up,
Right now I have two of these for overflow seating,

Been a while since I've posted anything... A lot has been done but there's still a lot to do!

We ran new lighting and installed dimmer switches. Put two aim-able can lights on the right side and a track light on the left side of the room. Each side is on its own dimmer.

Celling mounted my Haas box. Made a 3' slide in the celling (think upside down T) and reworked the PJ stand to have a lip on the inside (think upside down L on each side)

Ordered a high power screen from provantage.

Started designing a small bar for the back corner and building a 10" raiser for the back row of seats.

I'll take an upload some pics soon :-)

raiser is done, just needs carpeted.

Screen should be here today!

Bar is built and has one coat of stain. Its an L shape (64" long, 48" wide top is 16" deep and 43" tall, If I remember right) I was trying out my jigsaw skills and made the the the tip of the L into a quarter circle. it turned out very nice and round but now i'm having a hard time finding trim for it.. Anybody now how/where to get flexible trim? (16" radius)

btw.. I have pics taken, just need to upload them.
