Hmmm...very interesting!

About 10 years ago I got a glow in the dark pen, and every night for months I would put many, many small dots randomly on the ceiling of my bedroom. When I turned out the lights I had a starfield that looked rich and beautifully authentic - for just a few minutes. Moved house since. Might do it again for the kids' room cool.gif

you can basically do the same thing for a few bucks , I use to do painting in houses with glow in the dark paint. You can now buy 12 hr glow time paint and it is amazing,Looks exactly like night sky but need the lights off to view . Simple way of doing it is put paint in elmers glue bottle and just start dabbing, small big larger, to do a milkyway effect you get a toothbrush and rum your thumb along to get a cloudy looking area on ceiling. This is awesome to do and the paint they have now is amazing but it does not move like the lite projector your talking about. If your interested in doing the painting I will tell you how but that is basically it. just a few tricks and you can do a whole room done in 1/2hour. I did a room in our cottage about 5-6 years ago and is still going strong ,should last 10 some odd years. My other rooms we have moved since but some contacts still want me to do it again..

I did this on the bedroom ceiling in my then apartment about 10 years ago. Just the regular fades out in 3 mins glow in the dark paint.

The GITDP came in a little squeeze tube, so I put random dot after dot up there (almost) every night for a couple of years. The effect was fantastic by the time I sold the place. Wish I'd thought of the toothbrush idea...

Might have another go now in the kid's bedroom with some of the 12hr paint if I can some here in Oz. If I use enough it may even save the night light cost on the power bill!!!

I haven't done it yet, but I've researched it a bit for my son's room. This is the best place that I've found so far in terms of quality paint and prices:

Glow in the dark paint

If anyone finds any other places to get quality paint online, let me know. They have lots of detail on techniques as well at the same site HERE.

How about getting some UV security pens, the type you use for 'invisibly' marking your tv/dvd etc., and like Lola T70 MkIII just randomly draw dots on your ceiling/walls. It won't show up under normal lighting so nobody will know the dots are there, until you turn on some UV lights when the room is dark.
Cheap and easily available UV lights can be obtained from places selling PC modding bits, cold cathode tubes that run off 12v powered inverters are one of the most popular lights for putting inside modded computers, they're very bright and made in a range of colours including UV.

When I was a kid I had an amazing glow in the dark poster of the moon, about a metre square and highly detailed with the names of the different places. Somehow it went missing and I wish I could find another one.

Sorry didn't see this post until today,,, There are a couple of online stores ,go for 10 hr glow paint ,put it in a empty elmer glue bottle (the little ones with the orange tip end) and just start putting little dots on , get a star chart to do some real stars and also put bigger dots up to get 3 d effect.. and to do a milky system , water a a bit down (if it is the water type ) and get an old tooth brush and flick a milky way effect onto ceiling , ,. very simple to do and looks very well and real , ceiling does dissappear and looks like a night sky.. any other questions pm and I can give you more details ... I was thinking of getting back into this for side thing to do...
