Am a newbieat this 'though i've been doing a lot of reading here of late. Keen to get going on designing my first pj, but i live in Australia. Can someone tell me where i can get the triplex lenses and fresnel lenses from. Surely there must be local suppliers, cos my hair is falling out everytime i read that someone forgot where they got there gear from. Thanks

Welcome Bernz

Best bet is to get them straight from the LL Store.

Have you decided on your PJ's components yet? Standard? Pro?

If you haven't already, have a read of this, it's a pretty good place to start.

Hi ozstang,

Where would be the best and cheapest place to buy the 400w bulb kit from in aussie land? From aussie or straight from LL themselves?

Cheers all.

Welcome aboard dude. I ended up getting a 150W ceramic metal halide. Same light output, better light quality, way smaller, uses 63% less power, puts out 50% less heat, and uses an electronic 'ballast that runs very cool. Its on my post in 'projector builder', 'PLOG, Your project logs', 'Aussie pj on the build'. It's from Osram, purchased it through Lawrence and Hanson, who are Australia wide (two of the other major Electrical retailers said that the electronic ballast didn't exist). You can go and find the beasty by looking at osrams online catalogue (just 'google' it). It's not cheap, but if you check around some of the posts on this site they are definitely the way to go.

I got my 150W gear through L & H as well a couple of weeks ago. All up was about $190. I've heard of way too much trouble with electronic ballasts so I've always use Mag Ballasts/Ignitors. No problems, no noise, ever.

Thanks oztang, i was hoping to use a 400watt ballast tho.

Also, I've found a 150watt metal halide lamp/ballast at my mates house that he gave to me, I will take a few pics and get the info off it and if you could tell me if its suitable for projection that'd be great???

Well, then this gear will work. Get it from the same place. I've been using it for over a year now with no problems.
