I <3 my projector. Its sooo amazing. Screen is about 120-140" I havent really measured exactly yet. 2 Problems tho..

1) The picture is bright enough except the black scenes. When playing a movie or xbox I get to a very dark scene and well everything it just to dark to really tell. I was wondering how do I make the blacks lighter?

I have turned the brightness and contrast to MAX on my monitor. I have also turned the digital vibrance and brightness to max on my Mythtv Box. I still have not turned / touched the gama. I think that will do it for my mythtv box tho im not sure. Still leaves xbox 360 dark in games. I wonder if there is any more settings on my montior to fix this?

I think I have to move my light closer to my lens? Does this fix it? Is there any other option?

Samsung 152T
Viewable Size: 15"
Resolution: 1024x768@75 Hz
Contrast : 500:1
Brightness: 350 cd/m2

2) My screen is to big. I cant move my projector up. To reduce the size of the screen I think I have to move my LCD closer to my triplet. Is this right?

3) Can anyone tell me a quick and easy way to make a frame from my lcd? I don't have the right / good tools of making straight cuts to make a frame. Is there any material I can use to frame it then use ducktape on the edges to black it out?

4)So like to get a 720p you need a 17" to get over 1024x768. But im sure thats all depends on the size. What is the resolution of my projection if I use a 1024x768 and the screen is 70"? 100"? 140"? How do you calculate it?

Thanks for the help!!

Add a pro reflector, cheap and proven to work. also, check your alignment. a laser level is a good way to line everything up. check your measurements you may need to tweak things a few millimeters or so. look for spillage around the triplet. make sure your keystone is less then 10 degrees (some people say 15, but i've found 10 to be my max).

It may just be the pics, but is your back fresnel straight? it should be parallel to the lcd. is the triplet in the center? looks a little low..

no, throw is determined by the triplet. I think the standard triplet is something like a 1 to 1 throw meaning at ten feet the image size will be ten feet. to get a different throw you need a different triplet (see the throw calc in the tools forum). make sure you match the focal lengths of your lenses.

I've used the sled design rather then frames. you can build a simple sled with small stripes of wood. just leave a 1/8" or so gap between two pieces and slide your panel into the gap. add some blocks at the bottom to allow for airflow and FFC connections.

screen size does not effect the resolution size. your panels resolution is the total number of pixels (colored dots) in the panel. the more pixels the sharper the image.

look at the pic of this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution

I have done a lot of reading.. not enough i guess.. i wish i could take some good pictures.. it looks really really good.

I fixed the brightness with my mythtv box. The settings were actually not getting applied .. but once I applied them the brightness fix it. Also color saturation gave me the rich colors in Cars and other movies.

1 problem still.. and i think to fix it cost to much money for a broke college student.. Halo 2 is to dark =\. My other 360 games have brightness in the game options but not old halo 2. bummer =\

I allined everything perfeclty again. Its not that.. Its really sharp so I don't think its that.. anywho..

How long does my ballist last? I got the kit from lumenlab...

Grrr I want to sell my projector and build another 720p! lol dang it

The LL kit should be plenty bright enough. Try moving the lamp towards and away from the LCD see if that makes any difference. Move the whole PJ towards the screen until your image is only about 80-100" diagonal. brightness will drop off the larger your projection is.

The ballast should last as long as you want to use it, as long as it doesn't get too hot.

Nice job, btw! I envy you the time to work on it. I'm still up at 2:15am, and I have a pool tourney tomorrow morning. And we have 2 foster kids for the weekend. And I'm never gonna have time to work on the PJ! Frick!
