Hey, I'm just remodeling my bedroom and I was looking for a tv when I found this site. ITS AWESOME. I read the beginner tutorial and I can say I'm totally confused. It all seems pretty simple but then I see people projectors with wire upon wire and i feel like a missed something. could someone explain?
If I were to do one I would want it just to be for gaming and dvds. I would also want it to be a vertical stand?
what parts would you guys suggest?
:Edit:
Also I only want to be about 50 60" if that could make it cheaper in anyway

It does seem a bit confusing but just read around and the guide is a great help. You need an LCD (I can get them for decent prices), a wiring kit, fresnels, lens, fans, etc. Just look at other people's designs for ideas.
For gaming I'd recommend a monitor with a fast response rate. Vertical setups will save space if you don't mind the 6-8% light loss.

Be prepared to do a lot of reading initially - spend a couple of days reading to get a better understanding about what's going on.
Read this and follow the links in the first post to the guide and the FAQ's. The guide will give you the basic understanding of the operational principles of this type of projector.
You will also need the
focal length calculator to see if you can fit your pj into your room and also figure out which lenses and LCD size you'll need.

Hi Pangaea, good to see u r interested in doin a fun project. it is really cool to do something like this on your own. i did mine a while back, its giving a cool 120" pic.
if u r planning to do a pj for your bed room,i would suggest u buy this evo thing. no pain,no worries. if u r not used to power tools it would not be a easy thing to do even though its possible.
i did a box setting but it took me about 2 week to get it up and running.vertical is a bit tricky for me. not sure about the fs mirror thing.
Given ur requirment ,i feel u should do a 15 inch setup with a unsplit setup.
Things to buy.
1. Power tool for timber work,or do lots of research and get it cut by shop and u join them ur self.(be very accurate and leave space for fixing)
2. LCD monitor (17" my favourite LG 1750 SQ)
3. Pro lens kit from lumenlab
4.Light kit( go to a light shop and ask for MH 400 w carpark light set about 140-150 US$)
5.Switch,cables,min 2 fans(120mm better).
6.tempered glass & lexan from a glazier( find one who really make it,get it to the same size as ur fersnel lens)
make sure u get the same size drill bit and all screw to the same gauge ,will make it much easier.
How u do it.
1. Strip lcd, dont rush, take time ,star screw driver and those tiny screw driver will do the job. be very careful
2. remove AG with water method, best way is soak one side before u go to bed, after u wake up strip it carefully and soak the other side b4 u go to work, come back and do the other side.done.
3.have a good look to ur box, make a decision to ur design in mind.
4. draw diagram.
5.start putting things in.
1.light setup
2.fersnel lens
3.projection lens
4do the cable for light only
6. fire her up use a projection paper to test ur projection n lens set up. mark the best position.
7.take them apart.
8. do the final setting with LCD(upside down or use software)
read peoples idea and plogs. be carefl with electric parts .
if i confuse u sorry ,i was too.but now i got my own home theatre. soon u will have urs. good luck. any question pls ask. Again this is for a box setting.

Well, that's up to you to decide which way is the easiest for you. But remember easy ain't necessarily the best and the best sure ain't easy.
By the way, don't expect a result like they show here, it's totally faked:

well lets see. how much better than a zoombox would it be? because those are basically my two options. lol sorry im only 14. i have built my own computer though so it couldnt be that much harder to build a projector :l
:EDIT: and i knew that was a fake because the prjection has better quality than the real life objects in the room
