Hey All,

I was kicking around building a projector but still have some questions maybe you can help me with.

First with the LCD I was originally thinking about going with a smaller panel but it seems like most people use 15's. If I use a 15" LCD, when I am looking to buy one does response time matter for performance?

Second, I am planning on using a 135mm lens that I got from an old CRT Projector but I am unsure about the Fresnel Lenses.

And last but not least, where is a good place to go about finding the bulbs and what are some recommendations for them like brightness and such?

Thanks for the help!

Do you know how th find the fl of the 135mm lens?

There is a great 10.6" LCD that you might want to look at in the PJ with small panels.

No I don't, do you know of a way to find that? is that the focal length?

Then if i go with a smaller panel is cutting down the Fresnel lenses alright or should i look for a smaller one?

I think you will find that every question you have asked in this thread can be answered by reading the FAQ. Then again, if you want to ask questions about starting a project, there is a beginners forum. Its the one that is tilted "START HERE". post-418-1138467226.gif

golfer.....

The smaller panels usually don't have as good as spec as the larger panels.... resolution, response, contrast, etc. You need to think first about what you want to do with the projector.... only watch movies from a standard DVD player, watch TV, HD TV, play video games, etc. Also, how big of an image do you want. If you read many of the PLOGS, they start with an objective..... to build a gaming system and watch HD TV or something like that. As an example, on you question of response time..... important for gaming, but not as much for standard TV watching......

What's your objective?

Also..... I agree..... read the start here guide, the FAQ's, and many of the PLOG's. We're always eager to answer your questions, but there's a wealth of knowledge already there!

Ok I got answers for my questions except one:

I read in only a few places about stripping the anti glare off the LCD, so I was just wondering if this is worth the risk of removing?

I read through some of the PLOGs but didn't find much. What are your opinions on removing the anti glare?

Your shout at the end of the day, though generally considered worth it for the improvement in image, I think in general it can be fairly strightforward so long as you take a little care. I, along with a few others, had some problems, but got round them. There's loads of info on this site, including a log dedicated to AG strips. See if your panel has been attempted before maybe.

Here's the link - plenty to read here!

Good luck - Rich

I've yet to start my PJ, but from what I gather removing the AG will make the image more vivid and sharp. at the same time the SDE (screen door effect) will be slightly more noticeable.

Don't take my word on that though, because like I said, i've yet to start my own. tongue.gif

EDIT: Forgot to say, I believe removing the AG will be a must do for most people that can afford to take the risk. (Might ruin the LCD if you are not careful )

I've built two and stripped both panels without any issues at all. I think one of the biggest differences is in the age of the panel you are wanting to strip. Both of my panels were new, used only a couple of hours. Both stripped easily with the rag method using water only and soaking for 6 hours. If you read my PLOG you will find the entire procedure used on the latest strip.

Panels that have burned in over many hours can be much harder to strip. Could be the heat over time or it could just be that the panel is older and the type of adhesive used is harder to break down.

Anyway, I was reluctant on the first pj to strip it. I got it up and working, then took it apart and stripped it and I have to say it was a big difference for me. I will always strip ag.

Mordeth....... haven't started yet? Come on, we need another StL pj. Once we have the new screen up, you should come by and check out our setup.
