Hey LL,

I like the size of my Pro but with my new 10.6" it's throw is going to be somethng like 17 feet. I need more like 12-13. Would it be possible to move some triplet lenses around or change spacings to mess with the throw?

Maybe not the best way but in a pinch, you can shorten it by shooting towards the ceiling (or the floor in a ceiling mount) and then bouncing the light forward towards the screen using a mirror.

If you are saying your lcd is 10.6" and you are using a pro lens then a mirror at least 1 foot or more in size placed on angle with the triplet at 3.4 feet from the triplet would reduce the distance to the screen by that much.

I used Dazzla's calculator to fudge those numbers by pretending to project a 1 foot image using a 10.6 lcd and a 500fl triplet and it told me how far the triplet to screen (my mirror) would be. By modifying the screen size of the projection it effectively simulates the size of the mirror needed at a given distance. The real screen size will depend on how far the real screen is. You can retest that by re-entering the total distance of lens to mirror + mirror to screen to get the real screen size that will be projected for that total distance.

The Pro is 500mm the standard is 330mm (if I remmeber correctly) so just switch to the standard, use standard fresnels (shorter box) and you can easily get a 12 foot throw. Standard lens is $30, PRO is $200 so you save, $170, get a smaller box (win, win)

What are the differences between the pro lens and the standard lens besides the throw distance ?

Diameter. Which allows more light to pass through. Which results in a brighter and more focused projection (unless you tax the limits of the pro with a 17" lcd).

Brighter I can understand, but wouldn't you have a shallower depth of field with a larger diameter lens? (Similar to a smaller F stop on a camera.) IE You would have to be more accurate to get it focussed.
