I have a 17" LCD which will accept resolution changes up to 1900 X 1080.

The problem that I have is that when I adjust the screen resolution to anything other than 1280 X 1024 the size forces me to scroll from left to right and up / down.

Is there any way to fill the screen without having to scroll left to right ect....

The second question: Should I just stick with 1280 X 1024? This is still better than native HD 1024 X 720 right?

The third question is: My LCD is VGA input only. If I want to achieve HD video, what do I need to do? I found some cool USB HD devices from Hauppauge.

Here is the link to the USB HD device.

Any advice would be greatly appretiated!

The monitors native resolution is 1280X1024, any higher resolution you set it to will result in the scrolling. There is no way around it, that I am aware of anyway.

1280X1024 will support 480p and 720p, which should be just fine. I read an article today comparing the 1080p and the 720p HD modes, and to the eye there is not much difference. This of course is a subjective thing. If you are concerned with the quality, take a trip to Best Buy or Circuit City and see if they can't give you a demonstration between the two. See if you notice a difference.

I have seen some users go with a device that gives you a component input to a VGA output (vdigi, I think) and there are some DIY plans out there as well. If you are going to using a computer for the source, all you need is an HD PC card. I have heard good things about hauppauge cards, and I used to have the Win Hauppauge many moons ago, that was more than adequate on a CRT monitor.

I am in the process of building a 17" monitor based projector, and from what I have so far the results are stunning. Once everything is working I plan on getting something for my Direct TV HD content, till then I am using my HTPC.

You are looking for "down-conversion." I don't think you'll get that with a PC as your source (I'm assuming you are using a PC). You wouldn't want it anyway, since you would just be cramming it back down to 1280x1024 anyway. Not much point in going up just to go back down. smile.gif

Yes, stick with your monitor's native 1280x1024, that will look the best. HD on your monitor will be 1280x720 (called 720p). And it will look amazing. I use a 17" and both 720p and 1080i (1920x1080 - downscaled to 720p by my HDTV software) look breath-taking. cool.gif

Again, assuming your source is a PC, your VGA input is very capable of carrying HD video. If you want something that converts from component or HDMI to VGA, then I guess you would want a "NextVision N6". (Hope I got that right.) Never seen one myself, but I think that's what they do.
