I know this is a DIY section, but for this price I would much rather just get a pre-built one! Had anyone had any experience with this sub?:

I'm looking to replace my old subs which blew on me. It supposedly gets down to 25hz which I'm sure is way better than what my old subs used to do (I had 2 jensen 10" car subs in a bandpass box).

I replaced my rear surrounds with full size towers and that made quite a difference! After changing the settings on my dvd player/receiver to let it know i had large rear speakers I was surprised at how much bass got sent to the back...I still need something to fill in that low low end stuff though.

I would also be interested in getting rid of my budget center for a better budget center channel smile.gif

I have the Dayton 10" in a secondary, two-channel steup (the older, down-firing model, a.k.a. the "Tiny Mighty.") For a long time it was held as the best bang-for-your buck sub available for those on a budget. Had a little trouble when the amp went out of me (could have been the wife's fault, long story) and they replaced it lickity-split no questions asked. Still going strong. Certainly not the tightest, most musical sub available, but for the price I don't think it can be beat.

From what I understand, Dayton's subs have gotten even better since then. PE's customer support is fantastic as well. Free shipping on everything over $99. Sounds like a slam dunk.

Sorry, gotta go off topic for a mo'.
From their site: "This is the first home audio woofer delivering true response to DC."

That has to be the most inane thing I've ever read about an "audio" product. DC voltage/current does not produce a sound, unless you count the thump when you turn an amp on. Even then, good amps don't produce a thump, because their DC output is low or non-existant, or at least have a relay in line with the output to protect your loudspeakers from damage caused by DC. Audio devices are AC devices, all DC power input to a loudspeaker will do is heat the voice coil unnecessarily.

More from their site: "If you want to hear and feel the 4-5 hertz fundamental frequency from a helicopter rotor, the low frequency rumble of wind, the space of a concert hall or infrasonic information contained in an explosion, this is the only woofer technology available."

Sorry, I don't believe that for a moment, one of the Aura Bass Shakers from parts express would work just fine, I bet, because you cannot hear that low of a frequency, but you can feel it.

"Over the years the generally accepted low frequency limit of hearing has been 20Hz, some suggesting 16Hz. However nothing existed to produce significant enough output to change this belief."

They've obviously never been to a hall/church with a really good pipe organ.

OK, back to topic. I'm considering the PartsExpress sub, too, post back and let us know if it works out for you, greymalkin

yah, I don't believe everything I read. Saw it in some magazine and I thought it was interesting. I was thinking about doing some technical reading on some of their claims, but c'mon at 25k who really cares what they say it does. I'm just amazed at their ingenuity.

So did you getthis sub? Just curious to see.

I was planning on building my own sub, but that seems pretty cheap! Was tryign to see what sub and amp it used to see if it was cheaper to get this or parts seperate..... cause I could scrap the box and use a DIY box tuned to the sub if the parts arethe ones I was looking at lol.

that fan like sub is old technology anyway. car audio has seen them years ago i think it was called the cyclone made by kicker or cerwin vega. i tell you what i saw a setup with 3 of them in a van and it was so loud you had to wear earphones when you were near it and the change in your pockets rattled.

The Cyclone is a PG product and works differently than the fan.

The fan rotates at a constant rate, the blades twist to vibrate the air. It moves lots of air. In the right configuration it should make incredible SPLs.

But not worth 25k.

As to the Dayton, it's great for the money.

Greymalkin.
Dont know if anyone really gave you an answer on this. Im assuming you have a sub by now, but my money is on this little beastie. For 150.00 you really cannot beat the performance of this sub. I have a friend who has one in a very large garage and it it still manages to do a very good job. I have always been a big fan of partsexpress and I would seriously think about giving this one a go. I have heard 400 dollar subs that didnt sound as good as this one. Puts my friends yamaha to absolute shame. The only thing you want to watch is corner loading it. If you get it too close to a wall corner it doubles up and becomes quite boomy. You can usually count on the specs from PE too. If they say it will do 25hz, then it will.
