Here is my super high tech CIR projection system with a Hellifino LCD screen, and a 6# triplet.
(CIR - Crap In Room)

First up I find some mistrious crap strewn about and put in nice pile for photo. (ok smile)

Then I pop the Hellifino LCD into a square hole in a box that probably contained a round object.
I have no idea what I got from CDW if I got anything at all..

Packing tape and some creative corrugated engineering.

Enter the CF lamp, with a touch of electrical tape to sooth the stray photons.
kakureru
Adding a super high tech photon riccocheting sheet and help the box find religion and put a fan in a hole.

Sealed shut with a single 2" strip of 3m coated adhesive..

Fasten on a compact 6 pound, 6" arp triplet lens. (look ma, its pocket sized!)

Curiously enough, it worked.

Here is a camera tuned to what I saw. out of focus for the near sighted effect.

it produced around a 40" image when sitting on floor, the focus is ok. and is bright enough
to be able to see everything clearly.

This device has a story, it started by having another full working lcd sitting under one of the other 2 lenses
that I got and it was able to cast a 32" image on the cealing (lid) and was interesting to look at before
I decided to simply fall asleep. I watch all sorts of terrable shows with no sound.
This was an attempt to make it actually watchable (with sound)
To my disdain, I succeeded.

What I thought was transformers turned out to be a terrable Bicycle based anime. This is what I
call junk anime and probably cost some one theyre lunch money to licence.

removed lacross tongue.gif and per jackychan's statement
thanks for compliment but doesnt save me from crummy anime smile.gif

If I rememebr right, thats the box I the LCD screens in... Fitting combonation, no?

Gotta love it!

See, now what you can do is get an old TV box from behind the nearest Fry's/Tweeters, cut out a space for a screen, use some old wax paper or an old plastic panel from an overhead light and have a good ole' trailer special rear projection with that thing. Yee Haw!
JackyChan
lacross is spelled lacrosse and is where they run around with the little nets

I personally think your projector rocks! ROCK-ON!

could you post a totall cost.

You're right on the spelling, but I would strongly recommend you not tell a lacrosse player that his stick is a "little net". He'll promptly use it to beat the holy crap out of you! tongue.gif

More pics!

I added pepsi can reflector instead of the paper one and it increased bte overall brightness by 1/3 and
got rid of the dark corners.... (this is fun)

The pics were taken with a camcorders foto feature since its overall better at low light.

I cant wait to get the PS1 lcd some one is sending me cuz I left enough room on the inside for it when I get it
I will just have to rig up a reflector balancer since I dont have any fesnels floating about..

Maybe ill win that evo and my projector woes will go away tongue.gif

Here is what the camera saw:

Here is what it looks like to me:
JackyChan
Did you remember to polish that pepsi can bottom with chocolate? or toothpast if you want to splurge?
kakureru
I didnt use the bottm since its smaller than the lamp, I used the side of it and put on a layer of really reflective aluminum tape. Worked out pretty well
JackyChan
oh like a parabolic. You could also try a boed cd. The hole in the middle mite help with hot spoting.
kakureru
the can fixed that, ill probably have to do that when I get my replacment ps1 LCD since the lamp wont cover most of it, the board went poof on mine.
Litherish
Looking pretty good there kakureru! smile.gif

This might be a little brighter and has a nice color temp too. I hope it does not break the buget.

This is just the reflector.

I have one you can have for free, if you want to try it, but I did make the hole a little larger.

True trailer would be the inside of a pop tart bag (mylar) glued to the inside of the "butt" end of a Leggs pantyhose container. Now THAT's a reflector. Or a big christmas ornament cracked in half. smile.gif

Heard around the trailer park: "Fish sticks? Is it our anniversary again?"
borg1of4
Tell me about it, that fangled new " frost brewed liner " might lock in the freshness but it killed the reflectivity and now all those hobbits look like smurfs; all blue and stuff !!!

SORRY

Careful ... the trash to treasure thing can really grab ya.

I was at my step-father's funeral, well ... the day before doing arrangements and stuff, and I was wandering around outside. I look down, and there is this broken light they have. It shines up on the trees and all ... you know the type. And what do I see? Yep, open to the sky, there is the same lamp I use in my projector ... mogul, ballast and all.

I started to head to the owner's office ... then of course, I thought better of it. Sure, he was probably going to replace the whole broken enclosure, but did I REALLY need an extra set from a funeral home? Brrrrrr And probably not the best time to be thinking projector thoughts either. LOL
kakureru
duct tape is expensive smile.gif A nice cheep role of packing tape for me.

also

you grabbed the lamp before some other stiff did. Dont fret about it smile.gif

I have run some of the higher color temp CFL lamps for thousands of hours and after the first hundres hours they are fairly stable for about a year of 24/7 use.

The guy also has a 55 watt cfl that has a shape that fits a larger reflector that he sells.

I have a low color temp one I might throw behind a LCD for fun.

I found a 27 watt 2800k CFL reflector lamp and did a few test with it.

The setup was a 17" LCD and a 18" fl triplet Buhl brand and for some shots a 80" screen.

I removed the back fresnel and placed the lamp almost touching the LCD and I got this image. It was about 15" around.

I then replaced the 220mm fl rear fresnel and got this screen.

Both screens were around 4 LUX which is very dim. In a really dark room it would still work OK.

The brightness would be better with the RPTV triplet by a few times because the F vaule is 1 or to say the triplet is the same size as the LCD.

With a 55 watt 5000k reflector lamp and a 7" LCD and a RPTV triplet it would look fine in a really dark room.

I know, i know i know smile.gif
but I really like all the input, you are all missing 1 main point
all this crap i had sitting around. so I used it. and its free
THese were the best resources I had on hand.

When I get a PS1 lcd ill actualy gop out and get ok parts for this.
like a decent reflector and a higher light output lamp
(though this one does have lots of output)
arizonavideo
There is a certain beauty in cheep.
kakureru
I discontinued use of projector. My back stopped hurting in the morning smile.gif
kakureru
now im waiting for my PS1 screen and brighter lamp to help make it useable during day in darkened room

i like the idea of using those daylight bulbs i am looking into a possible solution to my projector setup, by replacing the internal light source of the ohp with 2 40w bulbs, would give a theoretical out put of approx 400w total, as each one is supposed to be the equivelant of a 200w bulb.

will need to try it and see, i will post pics if it works (i just hope the lcd doesn't get fried)
kakureru
its not what u think smile.gif
