Hello,

I am thinking about getting the Da-lite screen, but I am not sure wich one to get? I am building a 15.4 widescreen projector.

I see there are different types of screens: Cinima, Hdtv....ect

What would be the best one to get, I have room for a screen 120" across which leads me to another question if i have room for a 10' screen how high would it be and what would be the diagnal?

thanks

Da-lite High powered is popular among DIY PJ owners since it boasts a 2.0 gain and helps combat our number one problem -- low brightness.

I don't have a wide screen lcd so i might be wrong.. but i think your aspect ratio is going to be 16:10 or 1.6:1. take a look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Screens_png.png

You can use these numbers to figure out what size screen will fit. I think the formula is:

Height = (Width / Ratio )
Width = (Height * Ratio )

We know Width = 120 and the Ratio is 1.6

Height = (120/1.6)
Height = 75

to find diagonal put the numbers in this calc:
http://www.csgnetwork.com/righttricalc.html

side a = 75
side b = 120

hit calc..

side c = 141.51 <- this is diagonal of your screen

yes 15.4" WS is 16:10.. the math above was correct. your screen can be 120x75" with a diagonal of 141.509717" edit: thats huge by the way. I always suggest people tape out the screen on the wall and sit at the normal distance.. ask yourself and think about it for a bit.. is this screen too big?

blink.gif blink.gif is this screen too big???? laugh.gif i've never heard of a screen too big!! tongue.gif

i think its a 1" screen to 1.2" seating ratio, or something like that.. so for a 140" screen the best sit would be 168" (or 14 feet) back from the screen. my screen is 120" 4:3 and i sit about 9 - 10 feet back (120 * 1.2 would be 12 feet) for wide screen movies its good but full screen is just alittle too big..

I would like to thank you guys for the fast response, you and others are helping making me my dream of having HD front projector possible

I know its huge biggrin.gif, we will be setting about 15 to 20 feet back do you think that is 2 big? for that?

So should I go HDTV with 1.78 closer to 1.6 or the letterbox thats 1.85?

http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/vie...calculator.html

You can use this calculator in regards to viewing distance. It gives the recommended viewing distance based on screen size according to the THX viewing standards.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Compaq-iPA...culator-pro.htm

You can use this calculator if you want to know the dimensions your image will be based on height, width, diagonal or aspect ratio of your projection. Note that this is 16:9, not 16:10, so that might effect your dimensions slightly, but it gives you a general idea.

Hope these help.

at 15 to 20 ft I think it will be fine. I sit 10 ft back from mine and 140 would be huge like sitting in the front row of a movie theater smile.gif

I just got my high power screen up this weekend and let me say wow. From the center 3 seats I'd say it's 50-70% more enjoyable to watch than just blackout cloth. From the far sides the benefits decrease to just a bit better than BO. I am please with the high gain for my application. The main thing to consider is viewing angle.
