DIY Digital Picture Frame

I was going to build one of these but my parents said we didn't need anything like that and I would have just blown all my money, luckily when i came across lumenlab.com they liked the idea of a projecter and said they'd remburse me if it worked biggrin.gif . I still may build one of these in the future though.....

How old are you ???

I read an article about Bill Gates having picture viewers like this in his house.
They run continuously with everything from family photos to French Impressionist's

Your folks will be blown away with this projector. Dont cheap out on parts.
I recommend BenQ's they have a refurbished site where you can get a nice 15" for about $300. Stick with Brain for the rest of the stuff.
If you run it through a PC you can watch movies, play games,TV..OR just run a slideshow with your Pics.

Ethernet > mvp > LCD screen (needs composite/svideo input), not only will your 'digital picture frame' rotate through your pictures but if the lcd screen has some speakers it'll play mp3's as well (or whole movies for that matter!) brings the cost down to almost nothing. (you can diy the mvp appart so you just pull out the board if you'd like, just make sure its got a bit of airflow going is all).

I'm 15, i havn't been on the forums for a while because my lcd bit the dust, i got frustrated, and temporarily gave up. I just noticed that they took the article off of the site dry.gif , but i guess thats to be excpected because they can't keep it there forever. I'll have to look around and see if I can find the article in my house or maybe email popsci to see if I can somehow get it

Also checkout this site!

[edit, text removed. The more I think about it, the more I think i should not have posted that. Copyrights, etc.... Plus, with the link above, and the link 'dvissers' posted, one should have more than enough info to build it now...]

Wow , that shows how organized I am biggrin.gif . Thanks
OKflyboy
No problem!

This is also a very good one

That's a very cool idea, I recently got given an old Pentium III 500mhz laptop because it was old and one of the hindges on the screen was damaged badly, however it all works fine - this looks like a great project I can do with it, totally strip it down and remove the keyboard/touchpad and use external mouse/keyboard when necessary.
If there was a powercut you'd still get about an hour of slideshow with the battery biggrin.gif

Or you could use one of the Benq monitors.
The FP591 and FP791 (15" and 17") have flash card readers, that are able to show slide shows without a computer. I've just bought the FP791 on ebay for $192 but haven't had time to open the box and see how well it works yet. This seems like a good option to have images for testing that don't require external computer or video hookups and provides what shoul be a stable image. The FP591 was on tigerdirect.com for $259 or $199 for a refurbished unit.

Yeah, That would work.
