Hi guys
Yes I hit a moose with my Mini Cooper S. I was traveling down Rte. 28 in Ossipee N.H. about 6pm. Tuesday. The moose had run up the 20 foot embankment and jumped over the guard rail to land right in front of me. when I saw it it was only about 20 feet from the car. I hit the brakes and pulled off to the right. I caught the left rear leg on the right side of the car. It then fell /slid across the hood to smack into the drivers side of the windshield and the a frame, and then down the drivers side of the car.
I was then rear ended by a truck that was following too close. We were both going 55.
The Mini however did it's job to save me. It held up great all in all. I can still open all the doors/ windows. Even the rear hatch where the truck hit me still opens. Cant say that about the truck though. It's grill/fan was pushed into the motor and the hood/ doors were all crumpled and binding.
The emergency crews couldn't believe that I had survived the moose not including the truck as well.
So the mini is off for repairs, I figured the insurance would have totaled it but it doesn't look like they will. estimated repair at 9 to 10 grand. without getting into the motor. the motor light was on and I am guessing that the super charger is shot since it took a good whack.
I am perplexed however, I know that the brunt of the moose hit was on the sides and hood/windshield, but none of the air bags went off. Not even when the truck hit in the rear. I figured I would have been wrapped in a bubble with all the airbags in this thing. Did have the seat belt on though. I survived with little injury. got some whiplash and other stuff. smacked my knee and ankle up. So just some bruising back pain to deal with.
