You have built your PJ.
You have your 100+” screen
You have your surround sound system
You have some really comfy seats/couch(s)

But something is still missing… Many say the popcorn and ambiance at a theater is superior to what you can do at home. Not true! You can have those things and add that extra something to your home theater experience.

POPCORN:
One of the secret ingredients to theater style popcorn is the Flavacol Salt.
The cheapest and lowest volume I have seen it is at Home Theater Express for $1.99!

They even have the Theater style popcorn boxes/tubs for when you have guest over…

Cool! Do you have to have a kettle popper or will a regular Stir Crazy popper work?

Stir Crazy should work, provided the capacity isnt over. I just use a wok...Kernels naturally fall to the bottom, easy to shake and big capacity...wink.gif

One suggestion to get that delicious theater flaver....

Cook the popcorn in Coconut oil. In high school, my friend managed the local theater and told me thats what they use.
Maviryk
Where do you find coconut oil??
Mavrick
You can order it from HTExpress Here. They sell just the Oil, and they also sell it in kits too. Take a look around, as they have some good stuff.

EDIT:

The link samuraijack posted above has the kit which uses coconut oil! wink.gif

Yup, cook it in coconut oil, and you've pretty much got Theater popcorn. That's really all there is to it. Popcorn + yellow dyed seasoning salt + yellow dyed coconut oil.

However, I call bullshit on popcorn giving you the final step to the theater experience.

You can NEVER have the theater experience in your home. You can have a kickass home theater experience, but nothing compares to the real thing.

I'm jealous that some of u obviously lived in a time where the theatre was an enjoyable experience. I hate the theatre. After I drop $10.50 I get to walk through sticky floors, listen to some dumb kids talk the whole time, potentially end up in a bad seat not worth $2 let alone 10, have sound that is either way to loud or way to soft, get lines in the screen sometimes, and many other things. I'd much rather lean back in my comfy couch or lay in bed and enjoy a 100" movie on my LL. Your among friends, you can go the bathroom without hassle, eat whatever you want, drink whatever you want (wink wink).

The only time I prefer the movies is when it is a fanboy type feature and the crowd makes the movie (and even then only on opening night at midnight).

Well pessemism rant over. Seriously though, where has quality theathre viewing gone?

I never meant to imply that popcorn was the final step to the theater experience. If you look at the title of this thread it says: “You’re Not Done Yet! That Final Touch, list those hard to find and/or little extras here.”

I started off with the popcorn seasoning and the theater style boxes as ONE of those extras. I had hoped that others would list other/more items too. I will give another example.

This one is not cheap, but it is a fast easy method of getting fountain sodas at home. There are cheaper DIY methods of installing a fountain machine at home, but this is the easiest. Personally I don’t think you can beat the taste of a properly calibrated fountain Coke. Cans or 2 Liters stink in comparison.

I'm with you!

I think my HT blows away the regular theater. My screen is big enough that I have to turn my head a little. The sound is just the way I like it. My sectional and lazy boy is muie more comfortable to sit on. I have popcorn & cokes that tastes no different than the theater (even have the same popcorn boxes), but at a fraction of the price. I can pause the movie and go to a clean restroom (no lines). If we miss something, we can rewind the movie and play it again to hear/see what we would have normally missed. Yep! Waayyyyy Better than the regular theater! We never go anymore as my wife hates the theater seats, people, and restrooms. We just wait for the DVD to be released in 2 - 3 months...

I totally agree, The theater I have here at home blows away going to a "real theater". no lines, my bathroom, my comfy chair, my 400 watt sound system, my control. I can make any popcorn, pour my own drinks. wait for the DVD to come out. I grew up in the days when going to the theater was what we did on friday nights for the new movies. that was back in the 70's when it didnt cost a weeks pay to take the family out for a night at the movies and a meal. BTW, I use a hot air popper and then melt some butter and add it to the popcorn with a little salt. Coke tastes much better out of a glass bottle if you dont have a machine with the pre-mix. nothing like the fountian though, when I was a kid I worked at a hot dog stand and we would dial up the syrup a touch for the coke, that was good!

Setup a commercial soda fountain machine!

I just came across this website that shows how to setup a used commercial soda fountain machine in your home. It shows where to get the parts and how to hook it up etc… Maybe a good project wink.gif
