Full Version: Question On Keystoning?

insane projector
i've built the basic 15in and now i'm getting ready to build my second design...

i'm stuck between a small 7in projector and doing a 17in widescreen (or another cheap 15in) but with a folded design...

either of these will be coming from the ceiling...as i'm going to have them able to rise and fall...

so keystoning will be needed...and i was thinking with the larger folded design could i just angle the mirror and lens so that it would shine where i need it to shine and then just keystone on the lcd like my simple project?

background on the room...its about 14x16 living room and the ceiling is about 9' tall. plans are the projector to lower down to about 7' high give or take a little...and project the image down to a screen near to eye level while sitting...

tell me what you think

you could probably get away without using a folded design. 7' up & ~15* keystone will probably put your screen low enough.

awesome, i had to do a very minor keystone on my first projector that i built...i was just wondering if it would be simular with a folded design...

i'm thinking about just a small form lcd screen and using overhead projector parts (like most of them use) and a lot of them have fs mirrors on a hinge right over the lens...i'll have to draw up some designs and post them on here to get some opinions

thanks for the response!

you will need to adjust the field fresnel to get an image thats not a trapazoid. in an ideal set up the triplet would be centered with your screen and there would be no need to keystone correct the image, if you are going to have the triplet 7' from the ground you will have to tilt the projector to put the image where you want it which means you will need keystone adjustability. in my set up I have the lens at a 5 degree tilt from 90. its a vertical fold (my Pro-V model ) and it sits on the floor, my mirror tilts on its center so I can move the image up or down just a bit to center it in the triplet, I had to move the front of my field fresnel 1" to correct the keystone, the back of the fresnel stayed where it was. this gives me a correct image thats 110" diag at 12' from the wall. of course the other option is to build a screen that can tilt to match the tilt of the PJ eliminating the keystone issue. I like your idea of a projector that drops from the ceiling, very stealthy. this can be done, I used a laser pointer to get the optics lined up for mine.

i hadn't thought about using a laser pointer...i'm not really looking at cutting into the ceiling until i get the projector built...and i'm still a little on the ropes if i want to do a small form one or a 17" one...right now i'm thinking the cheapest i can go until i finish school...

thanks for the response tescorp...really like your inclosures!
