Just wondering if anyone is using or has used this in the past (VGA > component cables). I wanted to know if there is any loss in PQ or not. Since I'm using a 7" Lilliput I have only 1 VGA input and 2 RCA. I'm going to have an HTPC connected to the projector but I also want to use the component cables for my xbox. I was originally thinking of making a manual switch to go between VGA when using the HTPC and switch over for my xbox. If there's no real PQ loss then I'm just going to have the inputs switched thru my receiver hooking both the pc and xbox using compnent. is this even a possible solution or would I need a transcoder as well to connect everything?

*EDIT*
forgot to mention that the video card I will be using is a ATI based Gigabyte 9600XT 128mb. Or does that even matter when using one of those connections? Basically it would be connected in the followin manor:

Going from VGA to component will degrade image quality. You may also run into sync on green issues if you plan to use a simple vga-to-component cable from your PC to receiver.

what you need is a scalar or transcoder. I use an N6 but i've read people have good luck with the X2VGA thingy. keep your input as vga, your picture will look better

hope this helps!

Ok lets say I do keep the signal VGA, I'm assuming I'd have to use some kind of manual switch to get between my HTPC and xbox right?

If you purchased the VDIGI transcoder, it will let you connect your xbox to it with component cables, and then output to your monitor via VGA with no PQ loss, and I believe it also has a VGA pass through, so that you could also connect your HTPC to it and use your computer on your projector when the VDIGI is turned off and would not require you to use a manual switch between your HTPC and xbox (someone who actually owns one of these will have to verify this for you though).

And not to disagree with xiopod, but I believe a lot of people have been having difficulties using the x2vga (see blake's recent post regarding this device), and agree that the VDIGI is a much better product.

You can use a Component to VGA transcoder:

High budget $169 - http://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/kdvtca3.asp

I have this model, it's very nice and works well for your application. Audio authority and Crescendo also make higher end models - here's crescendo's, looks nice: http://www.crescendo-systems.com/rev_transcoder.html

Low budget $45 - $60 - http://xbox.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.h...2Fwww.vdigi.com

The Vdigi is one of about 3 different brands with cheaper transcoders.

I did hours of searching for these and went with the KDVTCA3 clearence price.

I'm facing similar situation, and this is one of the solutions being considered - DVI-I Male to 3 RCA component Adapter w/ DIP Switch for ATI Video Cards:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product....at=2&style=

For the price it's worth testing if the picture will degrade acceprtably.

of course if you had a VGA cable for the XBox you could just use a KVM to select between the VGA inputs out to the projectors single VGA input
