I'm still here and working on the Kontron board and panel combo as well.

The custom interface cable quote and the Kontron controller quotes are final.

I still need to purchase the LCD panel and lenses.

Could someone answer two questions for me?

1. What is the current "Best" source for the Sharp WUXGA Panel? (double checking)

2. Also, where would be the best place to get the larger lenses I need?

I'll post more info as soon as I get the parts and test them.

Thanks!

If you want to use the standard triplet get the fresnels from 3dlens.
if you want a pro setup TESCORP will sell you a pro lens + fresnel combo, he would probably sell you just the fresnels also if you are going to use the beseler.

Talking about panels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I see people are focusing on the one panel for the sheet that was sent, and I just wanted to point out that more than likely all the 15.4 panels will work once the Kontron is configured with the data sheet sent. For example, from what I understand the G2A was only programmed with one LCD's datasheet, and so far all the different 15.4 LCDs tried appear to work (based on what I've read.) That would lend to the conclusion that the 15.4 LCD datasheets are pretty generic. Anyway, I would love to see someone include this in the testing phase when that time comes, since I'm interested in the controller, but I prefer to get a Phillips display when I'm ready to buy.

The original panel sent for programming was a sharp panel. That panel was used in some Dell laptops (and perhaps others laptops), but even Dell laptops use LCD's other than the sharp. What is nice is that it appears any panels used can be freely substituted with the G2A controller, this is based on the LCD needing to be a direct drop-in replacement for a laptop. My thinking is that laptop type displays would be nice to have programmed as there are likely different manufacturers panels out there that can be used as a replacement, providing us with a wider selection of panels that work.

only my 2 cents.

Ill be in this group buy for sure. My 17" 1280x1024 lcd is far from perfect with my new ps3. The image is scaled making everything look stretched, I cant play ps2 games due to the output being 50hz and I cant watch blueray with the output being interlaced. The scaling for ps2 and dvd should be out soon but I'd rather have the capability to scale any input to the panel. The default controllers for standard lcd's suck.

I'm still waiting on an update from my contact - hopefully won't be too long!

As soon as I know that it's going to work - I will start a new group buy thread and gather up interest to see how many we can get.

Do I have anybody who wants to volunteer to be the US go-to man? (I send all the US customers controllers to them and they send it on with local shipping - should save on shipping costs I assume)

Also - do we know anywhere that wholesales these panels? There must be a wholesaler that these ebay guys are getting them from...

I will do it, you, Shane and I have been working on Kontron for a long time, seems you finally broke through.
I can be the US distro point to help the cause.

Great! Just don't run off with all the controllers hehe.

I will work out shipping costs and everything once I get confirmation that the controller is good to go.

I must of just got lucky! All I did was email Kontron Australia and made it sound like I was a big business hehe

hi guys, i am currently in contact with a kontron retailer here in italy.
they send me prices in € of every CRTtoLCD model even the 7 with less inputs (only dvi and vga) called light version which is actually at a lower price starting from about 120€ ohmy.gif
Talking with technical manager, he told me that they have no problem to adapt their graphic controller to any panel and he ask me (as they did for kancerus) to send them datasheet and panel model in order to check if this kind of application has already been done.

My question is, did kancerus send a SHARP or which model did send?
Are you thinking that if he sent a sharp, then the same fw will work with other panel compatible with the same laptop?if so, which laptop is the panel sent (i presume a dell isn't it?)

Are you going to pay for the creation of the firmware, maybe i will need that file too....

Let me know, if you have questions, i can share what i discovered about this product

I sent them the datasheet for the Toshiba - LTD154EZ0S
I am under the impression that all the panels are built the same though because they all work in the same laptops.

I think we are going to pay for the firmware creation - but they haven't said if its needed or not yet (payment) as we will be buying a few from them so they may include the price in the purchases.
marcogt
ok so i will wait for news about firmware.
Is your LTD154ez0s built in a dell laptop??
I find a SHARP LQ154M1LW02 from a dell d800.
I'd like to buy a panel that will fit onto you're fw in order to pay you to have this pnl to upload in my device.
There is also the possibility, that they upload freely this file on their site (in this case, maybe they won't let you pay anithing! i hope! What about the connection cable? As far as i know, if this panels are installed on the same laptop, they will have the same connections, so i will need from you a cable.
For graphic controller, i won't join group buy as it's really less expensive for me buy from my retailer....hope you understand sad.gif
Let me know!

I am pretty sure they are all from Dell Laptops yeah - I got mine from ebay and it said it was for a Dell.

I don't know if they will make the firmware available or not - they may only install it on the ones that I order through them - so you may have to buy it through me.. or they might put it on their website and you can purchase it from anybody.. I don't know yet.

Sounds interesting, but a whole lot of this HDCP stuff has been "coming soon" for a long time now.

"This product is exclusively reserved to service center and professionals"

Also doesn't sound too encouraging. I'd still feel much more comfortable with the real thing. Going to call Kontron again in 2-3 hours, I'll report back with any news then.

hdfury is out.

have anyone else order it and test it on their projector?

OK, so this has probably been covered somewhere, but I've never found a real answer -

Does the ellusive 24bit colour 15.4 WUXGA panel exist in the wild?

Dell's site is loaded with notebooks claiming to have 15.4 WUXGA displays with 16.7m colours, but I don't know if there's some fineprint about dithering in there somewhere...

Can anyone confirm or deny the existence of such a panel?
Has anyone used one? Do the current controllers even support it (or are they limited to 262K) ?

no. 24 bit 15.4" WUXGA is not existetnt. allo fo the notebook screens are TN+Film panles, and their physical resolution is limited to 18 bits.

Hi Everybody - my contact has emailed me and said the following.

"The engineer needs a datasheet for the backlight inverter."

Anybody have one? I know we don't need this for our application - but would be good to have the unit programmed for the whole thing.

It's seems to be a little hard find it, i think it should be a part of panel datasheet....in fact panel is sold and installed only with inverter....
Dunno made a little shearch but nothing!

Yeah I searched but didn't come up with anything either - one would think that the inverter board wouldn't be too complicated to program.

yep i believe it too, inverter has not so many program status...ON OFF and dimmer, what else?
I agree with you that once there is FW to be paid (and so it seems at least to be realized)it is better have a fully functioning device!
Once you'll know something about FW lemme know! If you'll pay it, try to separate this cost from the whole, because if it's possible i would consider to buy it from you (as long it is compatible with crttolcd7 light series maybe try to ask when they'll ring you...)

Thanks!!!

I just told him to do it - I'm assuming it's only gonna blow the inverter if anything - which isn't needed for our application anyways.

Thanks jonjandran!

Sorry to crash this tread with such a newb status, I’ve been lurking her and there for months and doing a lot of my own research. I have built and been using a 17” based PJ now for about 2 months. I’m running a Home Depot Phillips 400w bulb, M59 bal., a “custom” 8” perforated reflector, 6.5”dia 8”Fl heat glass pre con, 330/550 frezzies, 5” 130cfm 1.2 amp fan, and a 22Fl Bessler triplet. It looks fantastic, even lighting at all four corners after a lot of tweeking. I WANT MORE. I want to be able to run 1080P native. I have a bare Kontron CRT-LCD 7 Muli on the way, it will be here this week. I have played around with EEPROM based logic controllers quite a bit, and I don’t anticipate any problems with the programming. Oh that reminds me, I better get the PLOG on my current PJ up before I tear it down for the new build!

look at the manual there - it says all sorts of things about all the different inputs - I am sure it will take whatever you throw at it.

Yes its the multimedia one that we are getting.
marcogt
As far as i know mm version has not component input, this is an optional that here in europe costs about 60 eur (about 90 $)
foe
True but the fact that it can take component implies that it can take a 50hz signal (most component outputs do this as far as I know) and increase it to the minimum of the panel 60hz?

All I know is that the tv tuner and ps3 I bought both output 720p at 50hz, my current lcd wont accept it unless its 60hz

I did a little search but found nothing.
Let's hope you'll find what you need!

Yes it will have HDCP and DVI (HDMI with a converter)

From what my contact has been saying - it sounds like its almost there - but I am still waiting on confirmation.
-Bill-
While were waiting how about we discuss the group buy.
Will we use paypal, and how secure will this be? (never been in a group buy before)
So are we looking at about $400-$500 for the panel and Kontron board shipped, and these will be sharp panels right?

I also wonder if the board will ever have an HD TV tuner expansion with maybe a possible cablecard or Digital over the air HD.
I probably should ask Kontron that though. (I think they are making one)
Does anyone know if Kontron will make custon lvds passthrough cables, I would love to install an extra connector on my next laptop (w/ 17" WUXGA) that I could plug one of these up to for a video input while the laptop is turned off.

Also, for anyone that has the board, how does component 480p widescreen look. (if you have a wii id definitely like to know)
Can it do 2x scaling properly of this, I know it does have aspect ratio scaling and 1:1
I'm looking forward to properly enjoying Resident Evil 4 for wii in full screen on my projector.
I'll make a plog later this summer when I get it finished, but it currently has an 18" beseller, LL pro fresnals, LL light kit w/ reflector and currently using x2gen 1280x800 15.4 inch till I get the WUXGA.
My friend also took a 10 foot by 14.5 foot poster from the nearby rave theater where he works, its the 007 poster from earlier this year, and the backside is white. I will set it up in my backyard and will probably paint it.

Oh, and excuse my rambling, I'm a professional at it. wink.gif
Neilrp
Hey I was just wondering if you think there will be more than one group buy like before. Sorry I searched but couldn't find anything.

I'm just asking because I'm going to Britain for the summer and I'm probably going to be spending all of my money (I am 16 years old) and probably won't get enough money for the group buy for a while.
