I think I might actually just go with the MST
I am going to be running everything from a computer anyway, and its cheap.
Does anybody know if Johnzo still has stock of the MST? and does it come with the needed LVDS cable?

Yes he has a stock of the Mst and yes it comes with the Lvds cable.
And just a fyi, johnzo is trying to get the manufacturer to enable 1:1 pixel mapping. Here's hoping he succeeds

sfij has got my gears turning, my signals are running balanced, but I am going to double check my blanking term......something is just not right....
Case in point; I connected a late model Samsung 14.1 to the controller and reflashed it, I got the exact same color distortion that I did on the 15.4!!!!!!!
The Kontron engineer and I missed the same thing; I'm determined to find it!

Do you know if it will just be a firmware update you can do? or a whole new board?
And is there any chance of the HDCP Key being banned? like.. is it a proper key etc?

I am also using an anamorphic lens to get the true cinemascope

It was way too simple! I new it was a gamma problem in the firmware, and it was, kind of. I noticed that when I started Win XP, the splash screen looked perfect when it first started fading in, then quickly became distorted. It seemed to work at lower gamma levels. Rather than crawl through all the gamma tables in the CFG app, I started adjusting the brightness and color gamma through the OSD. You can independently adjust brightness, red, green, and blue via the OSD and OSD keypad; they’re on a sliding scale from 0-200. The board’s gamma scale goes well beyond what the panel can reproduce on the upper end without severe distortion and the default in my panel file seems to be full max. I dialed all four to a value of 40 and started fine tuning from there. I still have to set and test the analog inputs, as I’ve only run it on DVI, but it will adjust the same. After that I am going to tweak a few more panel settings. THIS IS A DONE DEAL! The Kontron board is a confirmed viable controller!!
Stay tuned……..

No, the gamma has just been lowered to the LCDs usable operating range. The Kontron's capable range goes WAY higher than 15.4's can support. Your not loosing somethine that was never there.

That's a good thing. Did you save off those as a separate panel file(s)?
It may be useful to someone else.
Actually, any panel files you could create would maybe be helpful to someone, that is if they had the ability to flash the file onto the controller.
Would there be any desire or benefit in you doing the same for any other panels that someone might be interested in using with the Kontron?
Maybe Kontron would be willing to put you on staff as a US based employee :-)

I created 13 panel files during my test and development process. The software that Kontron has available on their website will allow you to flash the panel and firmware files to the board. My current panel file can easily be adapted to any twin clocked panel with an industry standard 30 pin LVDS connection. I’d be happy to help anybody adapt a different panel. As soon as I finish my final tweaks to the WUXGA files, I’ll make them public as I promised. I’ll probably just package it, app and all, in a zip file.

I also asked him if we buy the controllers - will they have HDCP enabled by default - hes getting back to me.
Edit: He said the controllers are shipped with HDCP disabled - not sure exactly at what stage it is enabled, but If we organize a group buy and specify we want HDCP it will be enabled.

Ummm, I'm not absolutely positive, but I'm very very sure that both the Xbox360 and PS3 do not use HDCP. I know they are capable of it, but for just games and normal DVDs it is not needed. HDCP is only used for Blu-Ray and HD DVD movies. HighDef satelite and cable are suppose to be making their way over to HDCP, but even they aren't using it yet. So, also, an upscaled DVD player will also not test the HDCP since regular DVDs don't use it. I know for a fact that the only thing that uses HDCP is Blu-Ray and HD DVD movies (I'm already starting my collection of Blu-Ray). So to test it, you need a movie that is HDCP, a player that can play a high def movie and support HDCP, and a display that will also support HDCP. I think it's really overkill, and a shame for all the people that bought highdef TVs over a year ago, but yea, that's what we're stuck with.
I'd lend my Blu-Ray player, but it's actually a Blu-Ray burner in my laptop. You ain't gettin that

Sep 10 2007, 06:43 AM
I'm pretty sure theres upconverting DVD players that when you make the output 1080 it uses HDCP - but not 100% sure.
I have a AV unit that has HDMI and other inputs and a HDMI output - and it doesn't matter what input you have playing - the HDMI output only works with a HDCP enabled TV or monitor.
HDCP sucks
sarunoatama
Sep 10 2007, 07:09 AM
The pure HDCP test would be to play a Blu-Ray or HDDVD since the content is HDCP protected (which the XBOX 360 Elite and PS3 can do). However, a lot devices these days impose HDCP restrictions even when displaying non-HDCP protected content such as DVDs or games at HD resolutions. What happens in those cases is the device checks to see if the display is HDCP compatible and if it is it sends the HD signal, if not, it sends either a downsampled signal or nothing at all.
That said, I agree, playing a Blu-Ray or HDDVD via whatever device with hdmi at max resolution should be the test that is done. I retract my suggestion of an upsampling DVD player.
Indeed, HDCP sucks.

huh. that's weird. Never heard of that before. I have a Yamaha and I don't have that problem. I'm getting an Onkyo for myself for xmas and it better not do that either. I was able to use the HDMI on high def cable no problem, and it was displayed on a dell 2405 which isn't HDCP compatible. Since it wasn't, I sold it and bought the new 2707 which is so I can play my Blu-Ray movies on it instead of watching them on my laptop (my laptop also has digital sound out so I can still get full 5.1/6.1/7.1 surround sound, just not the uncompressed ones that are in the Blu-Ray movies)
btw, yes, HDCP blows goats
