Full Version: Pressure Marks Effect Projector Much?

Hey all,
I'm new to this forum, am currently assembling parts to make my own projector, I guess you'll be hearing a bit from me over the next few months!

My woes have already started, the first lcd panel I bought off eBay was delivered to the wrong person by the Irish postal service (registered mail too!) and neither they nor I can find out who. So I've to go shopping again!

There is a suitable lcd panel on eBay at the minute herre, but it's not perfect, it's got a few pressure marks.

My question is, do pressure marks remain when removing the reflective backing (I'd guess they do).
But how bad do they affect the projected image? Is this a waste of money?
Thanks all!

Garth,

I editted your post and fixed the slightly broken eBay link.

LCDs with known problems should be avoided. Any imperfections in the screen will be enlarged 5 to 10 times and
make you crazy. And the one you linked to is from a laptop, there are no controller boards included that are needed
to drive it with a video signal. If you're on a tight budget, look for LCD monitors with broken backlights that are
known to be strippable.

Wow fast reply, and thanks for that paladin. Buying dodgy kit now is just a waste of cash.

I've a controller board bought, see here, which is compatible with this panel, the Samsung LTN121X series.

Thanks for the advice!
GF

P.S. (I've just noticed this post would be more suitable for the Beginners Forum too, so apologies)

That's a good find on that controller card!

Yeah, I was well chuffed. It supports a decent few panels, all LVDS, and takes in a serious number of inputs! No DVI, but VGA, S-video, and TV tuner built in! Handy for projector!

There's still a few left on sale.
