So how about dropping all the 12V circuitry involved in the LCD's power brick and for the fans and use a solar cell inside the box used in place of flashing!!

Smashing, Baby!! YEAH!

Melting, baby!! YEAH!! biggrin.gif

Seriously though, this is really intriguing. If heat can be kept at bay, could we collect enough juice to power one or two fans and the LCD?

Hmm these things are built to run on top of rooftops in Arizona, I bet they can handle our enclosures. And this one's specs are 12v, 5W 12" x 12" x 1" ... that's 417mA right? Two of those inside would be expensive, but now you are talking almost an amp.

Oh sorry Votey ... I used the word smashing, which is insensitive of me. I will leave that for your UPS guy!!

Probably wouldn't want to run the fans directly since doing so would stop cooling the box immediately after the power was turned off. Instead you'd probably want to use a battery charger/SLA combo and use the panel to keep the battery charged up.

hmm maybe a peltier approach might be better. Drive the fans off the heat AND the light.

Yeah, and with a peltier you could wire it directly so that as the heat increased, the fan would run faster.
