I've decided to make my shelf/floor mounted PJ into a ceiling mounted type.
I've looked at a few different options and well have decided to go a completely different route.
(ceiling fan mount, just looked like a pita to me...key thing is that this MUST be mountable by 1 person)

I'd like to make it as adjustable as possible. I have overhead rafters that I intend to bore out and run a 1/2" pipe thru. I'd like to run pulleys along the top and have the PJ hang underneath it.
However, I can't figure out the ideal way to attach the PJ to the pulleys (or find appropriate pulleys for that matter)

seeing as all you guys use CAD and 3d artistic stuff blink.gif , I decided to go high tech and use mspaint huh.gif rolleyes.gif

pretend the PJ is at an angle...took too much effort to skew my rectangle lol

I don't know man... thats a pretty sweet-looking ceiling. I'd leave it be!

It's a steel 1/2" plumbers pipe that I'm using which I'll paint black making barely noticeable against the ceiling (other then the big a$5 PJ floating in the air lol)

I think your idea looks perfectly feasable, and I'm sure the pullies/rollers you need are available somewhere, I do have one question though. Are you going to need to roll the projector back and forth very much? If not you could probably just use "U" bolts to attach the projector to the pipes. They wouldn't slide very easily, but they would be cheap and are readily available.

You may want to look into using garage door tracks and rollers. The rollers have spindles that fit into brackets that can be affixed to wood. The rollers usually have ball bearings and slide into the tracks that are bent so that the rollers can't fall out. I'm sure some garage door repair shop may have some discarded tracks, etc that they'd unload for $5-10.

Joebakery's box used track from track lighting I believe.

I have seen people put up tracks, but I also am confused as to what they are for.

I don't have much of an option for placement in my spot. The image size will be what it will be. smile.gif

Yeah, thats what originally prompted the idea, I saw some pulleys at the Depot. The problem with them is that they're not wide enough where the pipe will actually sit IN the groove. I'm still going to give it a shot with them I think though. Using the tracks with them though is an interesting idea

I considered that, but it would make mounting/and removing either impossible or an extreme PITA

Think he custom made some bamboo...
Besides, track lighting is usually very expensive...and still doesn't really adress what I'm trying to figure out

How about large s hooks?

One man hanging is going to limit your choices here.

The problem with most of the usual hanging methods is that they'll cause the PJ to hang at an angle...ergo the pulleys, where the weight will be directly below the pipe.

There are so many possibilties....
But the number becomes more limited when you are trying to hold a 45 # box over your head.
Buy a case of beer and have a football watching party on the projector. cool.gif
When they show up, you let them know that you will be needing help putting it up. ph34r.gif
Also state when it's time to flip the switch it's time to pop the top. laugh.gif
