Full Version: Old Projection Tv Screen?

Hey everyone,

First time posting here. So I am on my way to building my dream projection setup. The big drawback is that I am in a room that is not always dark. I'll have to compete with sunlight, and street lights at night (not really bad though) and it's the one living room in my apartment so the lights will have to be on often.

This brings me to my projection screen. Now I've seen the Black Flame thing, that looks to be the best bet so far for me. (I'm guessing it helps the black look black and the rest of the light reflect back rather well)

But I was thinking, before I dive into the crazy paint mix thing, what else could I use? And I wondered if I took the screen from an old rear projection TV ( I can only assume the old front projection screens would work well, but they're still white screens, no? So the black would only be as dark as my room would allow?)

So what do you all think? I'm hoping some people out there have thought of this before and tried it out.

And thank you to everyone on this forum. This place is fantastic!

Welcome!
Another option is a Da-Lite High power screen. It has a 2.8 gain but can be pretty pricey depending on the size and format (widescreen, 4:3) of you screen, but BF is a good substitute.
