I was messing around today and got my picture 15 1/2 feet across.
I am just shooting it onto unfinished drywall right now untill my theater room is finished.
Here are some pictures.

Here is a picture from my sons new movie Over The Hedge.

So at 15 ft accross, are you having any screen door issues? How big are you planning for the screen size in your Home Theater Room?

One other question, about how long did your projector take from start to finish? You may have mentioned it but if you did I missed it.

Great projector. Looks really simple and neat.

15 feet is going to be my final size in the theater room.
I dont have any problems with the screen door affect the only way you see that is if you walk right up to were the screen will be and then you can see it. But my couch will be about 17 feet back so the picture looks great from there.

To answer your other question on how long it took to build.
In reality I could have finished it in a few days if all the parts would have been there.
But It took me about a month I started it in January and finished towards the end of February last year.
Since then I have been slowly finishing off my basement which is taking forever but I am getting close.

Thanks for the info. Congratulations on the great projector build and I hope your home theater turns out just as nice!

how bright is that huge image, i mean, is it watchable at that size, or is it alot dimmer than those pictures make it look. because if your projector really is that bright. wow, i must have done something wrong with mine. maybe just your exposure was really long?
wireman24
It's really that bright
Not to sound like I am tooting my own horn but it's actually brighter then the pictures show.
It looks alot better in person the picture is sharper and looks really good.
I know everybody says that pictures dont do these projectors justice but it's true.
It's really hard to get a true picture of what it looks like in person.

If you are having brightness issues I would say double check that everything is in alignment inside your box. If everything is spaced out correctly and in line correctly it should look great at 12 - 15 feet. At least thats my experience. Check my plog to see what I used and the measurments I used.

Now I must say those pic's look pretty impressive. As I know how hard it is to capture a decent image off one of those screens as it does'nt provide enough reflection for the camera to pick up. I would say thats a 10/10 build good goin best of luck. post-418-1138467278.gif be proud of what you've made biggrin.gif

I just said it your PLOG but I will say it again thats tooo good post-418-1138501501.gif

Thanks guys
I am really happy with the way it turned out.
I tried hanging it from the ceiling this weekend at about seven and a half feet from the floor and it worked great there as well.
I was a little concerened if the screen would get that keystone look to it but everything worked great.
the swinging front fresnel lens worked like a charm. I just used a temporary hanger to test it but I will take a picture of it when it's installed for good.

The screen door effect is not an issue of image size but an issue of image size to viewing distance.
If you blew up the image to 100 foot across but watched it from 120 feet away it would the same as it is here (less the brightness)
wireman24
Your correct 15 feet across not diag.
I sit about 12 feet from the screen and I have no problems with the screen door affect.

Holy C%@p your screen size is huge!!!!!!!!
Your results are outstanding I looked at the additional pictures in your plog and they blow me away.
Your projector should be in the hall of fame for sure. I have not seen anybody with that large of a picture that looks that good.
My hat is off to you sir.

Admins put this in the hall of fame
Anybody else agree
umesh kumar
Certainly it should be in the hall of fame.I too agree footluv.
wireman24
Thanks for the compliments guys.
I just ordered a new samsung lcd to put in the projector that has a better response time.
And also better contrast and resolution. I can't wait to see what that will look like.

Footluv you sent me a message asking how I get my corners in focus and bright.
To answer that I am using zoomplayer to shrink the image down to the size I want. I also use zoom player to position the image were I want it on the wall. It works perfect for doing this and that way I am only using a portion of the LCD and I dont have any of the focusing and dim corners that people seem to have with their sides and corners of the projected image. I get a nice clean edge all the way around that is in focus.

I have a question, according to you, the bulb you used is a 4000K 65 CRI Metal Halide , I thought that with that color temp and cri it would't be possible reach that quality of image but it seems that I was wrong, can you confirm your bulb specs? Thanks.
Quasi_Mojo
The lamp he mentioned in his PLOG was the 04002P. It color temp is 4200K, with a CRI of 60.
It has been advised by the "gurus", however, that a higher color temp and CRI are more favorable.
I, personally, would avoid using one of these "football" shaped lamps as it's difficult to find a decent reflector for it.
