Was reading this article on the weeb:
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35277It describes a new variant on OLED display panels -- AMOLED -- and it made me wonder whether an OLED display could also be used in a DIY projector or whether the heat generated would eat this type of display for breakfast...
Anyone have any experience with these?

no, OLED is not transmissive, it's direct emission like a VFD or EL display. if you could make one bright enough you could project it but that's not likely. maybe with something like feild emission (nanotubes) but that still isnt as practical as LCD, DLP or LCOS for projection

Ah, the nice thing about oled is that it can actually BE the projection. That is the screen would be covered in oleds and produce the image directly (think really thin, flexible lcd without the need for a backlight). They've thought of trying to use oled tech to make the outside of a cereal box display video (read that "play commercials"). And other such oddities. You could even have a t-shirt that displays video or at least different images. There are a few oled screens in digital cameras and such but nothing big or truly flexible yet. Fun stuff to look forward to...
