hi everyone!!!
i have the light setup from an ohp
it currently has a 24v/250W halogen bulb in it and i want it to be brighter so i found a 400W/36v halogen for £0.99 on ebay. I thought even if it doesn't work it's only £1.
If I connect it to the ohp transformer and bulb carriage will it blow the transformer or melt the wires because it's drawing too much power?

The 400W lamp has a calculated resistance of 3.24 ohms. The 250W lamp has a calculated resistance of 2.3 ohms. So I would say that the 400W lamp would only draw about 7.4 A @ 24V=177W. It would probably be dimmer than the 250W lamp and start to go black from not being hot enough for the halogen cycle.

ok.... that sucks... anyone know if you can change the output of an ohp transformer(the type big, heavy copper wires with stacked iron plates around them ?
it has a sticker which has... pin 1=220v, 2=230v, 3=240v
but it doesn't say if you can change the output voltage.

I rather doubt if you can do what you want with the existing transformer.
But are there any other markings on it, such as watts, amps, VA, etc?
Squishio
no other markings, only a sticker saying how to change the input voltage as described above^^^^
